Amarans were red-furred, bushy-tailed, vulpine humanoids indigenous to Amara in the Stenness Node. The Amarans established a colony on Naboo, where they worked as traders of indigenous wildlife - notably, the bursa.
Behind the scenes
The vulpine Amarans were probably inspired by the cartoon character "Amara Fox" drawn by Star Wars artist Amy Pronovost.

This is Amy, of the Amara Fox fame. They weren't inspired by Amara Fox, but the history of the aliens came from a conversation that there weren't any Vulpine aliens in the Star Wars Galaxy. I did some prelim sketches for both the Amarans and the Bursa and they ended up becoming published aliens based directly on my designs. keen :)
