-wing
From Wookieepedia, the Star Wars wiki.
-wing was a suffix frequently used when naming starfighters.
-wing follows an Alternate Basic alphabet letter which is chosen to represent the shape and design of the starfighter, however, in some cases, such similarity is not easily apparent. This "custom" has been noticed in ancient times (as early as the Jedi Civil War), but was most readily apparent in the names of the ships of the Galactic Civil War
