11-4D was a protocol droid in the service of Darth Plagueis in the years before the rise of the Galactic Empire. Some time before the Clone Wars, Plagueis was killed by his Sith apprentice Darth Sidious, who took 11-4D as his inheritance. The droid went on to faithfully serve Sidious for many years, and had apparently taken several different guises throughout his time of service. The droid had many more arms than a typical protocol model, and only two of them terminated in hand-like appendages. The rest were devoted to tools of various purpose, such as computer interface and power charge extentions. Little was known about the duties and functions of 11-4D save that he had overseen the excavation and restoration of Sidious's private lair; an ancient Sith shrine underneath the deepest recesses of the Imperial Palace.
Behind the scenesEdit
11-4D originally appeared in the Star Wars Legends novel Darth Plagueis, also written by James Luceno. Though the novel is no longer considered canon, 11-4D made several brief appearances in Luceno's 2014 novel Tarkin, officially incorporating the droid into the revised canon.
In 2012 during a question and answer session on Facebook, Luceno opined that 11-4D was there when Anakin Skywalker transformed into Darth Vader, depicted in a scene from 2005's Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith.,
