The 3D-4 administrative droid was a protocol droid produced by Genetech Corporation after the success of Cybot Galactica's 3PO-series protocol droid.

History
Edit

Rather than compete directly with Cybot Galactica, Genetech created a protocol droid with emphasis on systems administration over interstellar diplomacy. 3D-4 droids were commonly purchased as personal assistants to businessbeings requiring a traveling aide able to handle a variety of tasks independently. 3D-4 units were also used to initiate trade negotiations with commerce guilds or merchant houses, before their owner took over to finalize the deal.
These droids were programmed with almost two million forms of communication, and their internal databanks held exhaustive information on business, financial, and administrative issues. 3D-4 units were known to be meticulously precise and endowed with a personality that seemed both aloof and deferential.
They were covered with thick silver plating that became blistering to the touch under a hot sun. A laser pointer was fitted into the droid's right index finger.
A popular upgrade was to install a hidden hold-out blaster in case negotiations turned hostile. A 3D-4 cost 7320 credits when new.[1]
One 3D-4 unit, 3D-4X, took part in IG-88's Droid Revolution about 15 BBY, killing the administrator of Mechis III, Hekis Thun.
