- "They took it upon themselves to make a record of Jedi history and teachings…"
- ―Palpatine, to Leia Organa Solo, on the actions of a group of Jedi around this year
590 before the Battle of Yavin (BBY) was a year in the period of time known as the Great Peace of the Republic. The era, having begun more than four hundred years earlier, featured widespread settlement into the unexplored regions of the Outer Rim Territories and the opening of the Deep Core. Around this year, Jedi Master Bodo Baas updated the Tedryn Holocron, a Jedi teaching device.

After a thousand years of conflict between the Jedi and Sith, the New Sith Wars came to an end in 1,000 BBY. The Galactic Republic narrowly escaped destruction, and Supreme Chancellor Tarsus Valorum announced the Ruusan Reformation, reorganizing the Galactic Senate[10] and codifying the Jedi Order as a branch of the Judicial Department.[11]
In 600 BBY, the Jedi Bodo Baas was one of a group of Jedi who lived and served in the Adega system[12] and who took it upon themselves to create records of Jedi history and teachings for future Jedi to learn from.[13] After being promoted to the rank of Jedi Master,[12] Baas inherited a Jedi holocron and teaching device, the Tedryn Holocron.[14]

Edit
- "A brother and sister born to walk the sky,
But reckless brother falls--into dark side's eye!
Jedi sister carries hope for future in her womb.
Only she can save the Skywalkers from certain doom!
A Jedi-killer wants to tame her.
Now the Dark Side Lord comes to claim her.
She must battle join against this thief,
Or the dynasty of all the Jedi will come to grief!" - ―The prophecy of Baas's Master was added to the Tedryn Holocron around 590 BBY
The year 590 BBY was also known as 3,063 after the Treaty of Coruscant (ATC),[2] a peace agreement that brought an end to the Great Galactic War in 3,653 BBY.[10] 590 BBY was also the same as 410 after the Ruusan Reformation,[4] and 555 before the Great ReSynchronization (BrS), a year-notation system established in 35 BBY.[6] By 590 BBY, the Great Peace of the Republic, the period of time that followed the Ruusan Reformation, was more than four hundred years in the making.[1] The Republic continued its expansion into the Deep Core and uncharted Wild Space areas that later became part of the Outer Rim Territories.[10]
After completing his records around 590 BBY, Bodo Baas updated and reorganized the Tedryn Holocron, which had once been held by his ancestor, Vodo-Siosk Baas.[8] Bodo Baas added to the holocron the prophecy that had been written by his own Master four hundred years earlier.[15]
Impact
Edit
The Great Peace of the Republic continued for nearly six hundred more years,[1] as the Republic continued to expand. Economic forces began to shape the Republic, as companies bought star systems in the Tingel Arm and established the Corporate Sector.[11]
In 10 ABY, the Tedryn Holocron was found by Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker's New Jedi Order. Skywalker fulfilled the prophecy of Baas's Master when he and his sister, Leia Organa Solo, defeated the ruler of the first Galactic Empire, the Dark Side Lord Palpatine.[14]

Behind the scenes
Edit
The comic Dark Empire 5: Emperor Reborn, written by Tom Veitch, makes only a passing reference to Bodo Baas and his group of Jedi, who collected Jedi knowledge and recorded it six hundred years prior to 10 ABY—or 590 BBY—in which the story takes place.[13]
