ProemEdit

The conflict known as the New Sith Wars which saw a thousand years of fighting between two major Force-user factions, the Jedi and Sith, was finally ended in 1,000 BBY. The Galactic Republic was in ruins and was reorganized by the Ruusan Reformation, announced by Supreme Chancellor Tarsus Valorum.[7] The winning faction of the previous long war, Jedi Order was codified as a branch of the Republic's Judicial Department.[8]

The galaxy in 896 BBYEdit

The era of the Great Peace of the Republic began with the Ruusan Reformation more than one hundred years before the year of 896 BBY.[1] During these years, the Republic opened the Deep Core of the galaxy, and unexplored then Wild Space parts of space were charted by scouts and chartographers. The latter areas later became part of the Outer Rim Territories.[7]

Yoda, a Force-sensitive member of a green-skinned species was born in the first quarter of the year.[9]

ImpactEdit

After 896, the expansion of the Galactic Republic continued during the Great Peace of the Republic, which lasted for nearly nine hundred more years. In the following years, Economic forces acquired more and more power in the Republic, as companies established the Corporate Sector from star systems brought in the Tingel Arm.[8]

At one hundred years of age, Yoda became a Jedi Master. In the later centuries, he trained countless Jedi apprentices until they reached knighthood. His many years of contribution to the Order gained him a seat on the Jedi Council. Eventually, he ascended to become Grand Master of the Jedi Order.[10] For centuries, he served as the leader of all Jedi, thus turning him into the "face" of the Council and the embodiment of the Order.[11]

Behind the scenesEdit

"When nine hundred years old you reach, look as good you will not."
―Yoda, to Luke Skywalker[src]

In George Lucas's 1983 Return of the Jedi, Yoda implyed to his apprentice, Luke Skywalker that he was nine hundred years old.[16] The movie was set to happen four years after the Battle of Yavin, featured in the first Star Wars film, A New Hope. In 1998, LucasArts released the Star Wars: Behind the Magic, an interactive database on CD-ROM, which was the first to state that Yoda was born in 896 BBY.[5]

  2. The New Essential Chronology states that the Great Hyperspace War begins in 5,000 BBY, which is 1,347 BTC in Star Wars: The Old Republic's Galactic Timeline, so the difference between the calendar based on the Battle of Yavin and the calendar based on the Treaty of Coruscant is 3,653 years. This date is derived using simple math based upon other confirmed dates.
  3. The New Essential Chronology states that the Ruusan Reformation occurred in 1,000 BBY, which is the zero point of the calendar based on the Ruusan Reformation, so the difference between the calendar based on the Battle of Yavin and the Ruusan Reformation's year-notation system is 1,000 years. This date is derived using simple math based upon other confirmed dates.
  4. The Essential Atlas states that the Battle of Yavin occurred in year 35, which is the zero point of the BBY/ABY year-notation system, so the difference between the calendar based on the Battle of Yavin and the Great ReSynchronization's year-notation system is thirty-five years. This date is derived from simple math based upon other confirmed dates.

  9. Star Wars: The Ultimate Visual Guide states that Yoda was born in 896 BBY, which year spans approximately 861:3–860:3 BrS in the year-notation system of the Great ReSynchronization. The Essential Guide to Characters states that by the time he met Luke Skywalker in The Empire Strikes Back, Yoda was already 900 years old. The Essential Atlas marks the beginning of the film at 38:6:6, which puts Yoda's birthdate approximately to 862:6–861:6 BrS. Sectioning these two timespans narrows Yoda's possible birth date to 861:3–861:6 BrS, which is the approximatley the first quarter of 896 BBY.
