- "Fire on my command!"
- ―An AT-ACT driver to his co-pilot during the battle of Scarif
AT-ACT drivers were Galactic Empire army units who piloted All Terrain Armored Cargo Transports. The drivers wore white Imperial tank pilot armor along with a white coastal defender stormtrooper helmet that was adorned with grey and red markings, including a red Imperial crest located on the pilot's helmet. The breastplate featured gray stripes matched the pattern of the armor worn by Imperial combat assault tank commanders. The drivers were issued either E-11 or E-22 blaster rifles to carry as personal weapons. Despite their existence,[1] specialized AT-ACT driver divisions were not used due to the fact that the AT-ACT was not considered a battlefield assault vehicle.[2]
During the Galactic Civil War between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance, AT-ACT drivers were stationed on the planet Scarif,[1] which hosted an Imperial security complex.[3] During the year 0 BBY,[4] rebel forces infiltrated Scarif, kick-starting the battle of Scarif. Near the battle's conclusion, the complex was destroyed by the Death Star under orders from Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin.[3]
Behind the scenes
AT-ACT drivers were developed for the 2016 Star Wars Anthology Series film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The military unit's first appearance occurred within Hasbro Inc.'s Rogue One toy line, being packed with an AT-ACT toy alongside the film characters Jyn Erso and C2-B5.[1] Despite the existence of the toys, Star Wars: Rogue One: The Ultimate Visual Guide claimed that no specialized corp of pilots existed for the AT-ACT, despite the fact that that exact blurb contained an image of an AT-ACT driver helmet.[2]
The artwork on the action figure contains a slight difference to the design on the toy's packaging: the figure has a red Imperial crest on its helmet, while the artwork shows a different symbol in its place.[1]
