AV-6R7 was a V-series droid supervisor who served the Galactic Empire during the Galactic Civil War, overseeing the work droids constructing the second Death Star superweapon and acting as a liaison to the Executor, flagship of Sith Lord Darth Vader. The droid was at one point deprived of his arms as a punishment. He was present in a crew pit on board the Executor's bridge during the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY and was obliterated when a rebel RZ-1 A-wing interceptor crashed into the Imperial vessel.

Biography[]

AV-6R7 was a V-series droid supervisor that served the Galactic Empire during the Galactic Civil War against the Alliance to Restore the Republic.[2] He was assigned as a liaison to the Executor, the flagship of the Sith Lord Darth Vader,[3] and oversaw work droids that were building the Empire's Death Star II superweapon in the Endor system. The droid was at one point deprived of his arms for failing to keep track of a faulty power droid.[2]

In 4 ABY,[1] AV-6R7—his arms intact—was working at a bank of controls in a crew pit[3] on the bridge of the Executor when the bridge received a request for deactivation of the shield around the moon Endor from the Lambda-class T-4a shuttle Tydirium. The shuttle was allowed to proceed to Endor, but was in fact carrying rebels, and was a one of the first stages of an attack on the Death Star. AV-6R7 remained in the crew pit on the bridge during the ensuing battle and wobble when the vessel was shaken by an attack that disabled the bridge's deflector shields. An officer next to the droid reported the loss, but moments later a rebel RZ-1 A-wing interceptor[4] piloted by Green Leader Arvel Crynyd[2] crashed into the unshielded bridge[4] and obliterated AV-6R7 along with the Imperial staff he served.[3]

Characteristics[]

AV-6R7 was a supervisor droid with black plating.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

AV-6R7 appeared in the 1983 original trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi,[4] in scenes filmed on Stage 1 at Elstree Studios on February 8, 1982.[5] In the current Star Wars canon, AV-6R7 was first identified in 2017 in the "Droid Directory" section of the twentieth issue of De Agostini's Star Wars: Build Your Own R2-D2 magazine series. The issue identified AV-6R7 as an EV-series supervisor droid[3] but the 2018 reference book Star Wars: The Complete Visual Dictionary, New Edition instead labeled the droid as a V-series droid supervisor. This article assumes the later source to be correct.[2] The name AV-6R7 originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it first appeared in the 1998 reference book Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary, which was written by David West Reynolds.[6]
