"I want to be called 'Crackerjack.' Eh, that sounded better in my head. How about 'Ace?' "
―The individual, upon being recruited into the Coruscant Aegis[src]

The Voidhound, a member of the Coruscant Aegis who also went by the callsign "Ace," was a smuggler who served as a privateer for the Galactic Republic during the Cold War. The captain was still not found in the last five years during the Eternal Empire's raid.

Biography[]

Arrival on Ord Mantell[]

During the Cold War between the Galactic Republic and the reconstituted Sith Empire, a smuggler captain was hired by Rendia Freight to smuggle a shipment of weaponry to Ord Mantell, a planet that was in the middle of a civil war between the Republic-backed Ord Mantell Central Authority and the Mantellian Separatist Movement. The smuggler captain landed their XS stock light freighter in a hangar in the contested settlement of Drelliad village on the island of Avilatan. They were met by a human man named Skavak, who complimented the smuggler's flying. He suggested that the smuggler would leave quickly since the separatists were nearby, but before they could, another Rendia employee by the name of Corso Riggs entered the hangar and informed the two that the separatists had activated three anti-aircraft guns. The guns could shoot down the smuggler's starship, as they had already destroyed an incoming Republic transport. To ensure they would not be shot down, the smuggler captain fought their way through separatist forces to disable the artillery. After taking out three remote-control stations, the smuggler entered the air defense control station to disable the targeting computer. The computer didn't respond, so the smuggler blasted it instead, effectively disabling it.[2]

Betrayal[]

As the smuggler disabled the computer, Corso called via a holocommunicator and warned that there was trouble: separatists were busting into the hangar, and he requested help. Before the call ended, Corso was calling out to Skavak, asking what he was doing before the call got cut. The smuggler rushed back to the hangar, only to find Corso injured and surrounded by separatist soldiers. After killing the separatists, the smuggler assisted Corso. While the smuggler was doing this, their ship was stolen by Skavak. Corso revealed Skavak had apparently been working with the separatists, letting them into the hangar. Aside from the ship, Skavak had stolen the blasters that were supposed to be delivered by the smuggler. Corso complained that his blaster Torchy had also been stolen. They contacted Skavak via holo, who thanked the duo for the blasters, the ship, and a big laugh, on behalf of Ord Mantell's glorious freedom fighters, before jumping to hyperspace, cutting the connection. Corso then told the captain that he and Skavak had been working for Viidu, who would want revenge on Skavak as well when he found out what had happened. Per Corso's suggestions, the smuggler set to go to Fort Garnik. The military fort was controlled by the Republic Army, but they allowed Viidu to do what he wanted as he kept their supply lines open.[3]

Working for Viidu[]

Viidu-TOR

Ace's one-time employer on Ord Mantell, Viidu

Arriving at Fort Garnik, the smuggler met with Viidu, who had been told what had happened by Corso, and offers a drink to wash away their worries. He informs the smuggler that the blasters that were had stolen belonged to Rogun the Butcher, an unforgiving employer. The smuggler, realizing Rogun would be gunning for them, agreed to help Viidu catch Skavak so they could have their ship back. Wanting to learn about Skavak and his dealings with the separatists, Viidu suggests going to meet Reki, an expert on the separatist. However, Reki was stuck in Talloran village, which has been occupied by the Separatists and blockaded by the Republic. Since Viidu was friendly with the Republic commander in charge of the blockade, the smuggler could get inside. But that entrance had to be earned by eliminating some Separatists near the village, to prove their loyalty.[4]

The smuggler set out on foot for the village. Since Talloran village was running out of basic supplies due to the blockade, the smuggler brought supplies for Reki. Once they arrived in Talloran village, they fought their way into Reki's safehouse and delivered the supplies to Reki and the refugees inside. Reki told the smuggler that the only place to find personnel information about the separatists was at Mannett Point. He used to acquire quality goods at a discount on Mannett Point, which led him to discover all manner of shortcuts through the island's warehouses, which he kept detailed schematics of. However, when Reki fled Mannett Point, he had to abandon these schematics. But the schematics were still in his home, disguised as an extraordinarily tedious treatise on bird watching, the code for which he shared with the smuggler. Because Reki short-circuited his home before leaving, the smuggler would first have to disrupt Mannett Point's power relays. With this information, the smuggler returned to Viidu, as they would need his expertise to decrypt the separatist files.[5]

Returning to Rendia Freight, the smuggler was met by Syreena, who wanted to learn the status of the situation. Reaching Viidu's office, he and Corso were eating Roba steak, with Viidu acting as if it were his last meal because of Rogun the Butcher. Viidu informed the smuggler that they would have to swim to Mannett Point, as the only bridge to the island had been blown up by the separatists. He gave the smuggler a datapad to download the files onto, which he'd be able to decrypt. Corso wanted to go with the smuggler, but Viidu wanted him to get a slicer kit first, so the smuggler would head out alone. Before they left, Syreena entered the room, telling Viidu that a man named Rogun was calling.[6]

After arriving on Mannett Point, the smuggler disrupted the power relays, giving access to Reki's home. Using the code Reki gave, the schematics were unlocked and revealed the access to the separatists' hideout on the island. Fighting their way through the hideout, they reached and accessed the computer to download the data. However, before they could do so, a separatist named Gorry and his droid 4-SEN showed up. They wanted to check the computer core because of the trouble with the power relays. The droid detected dead bodies in the hideout, which made Gorry suspicious of the smuggler, but the smuggler talked their way out of the situation and returned to Rendia Freight.[7]

In the warehouse, Syreena was cornered by Bracco and his men. The smuggler turned them away, claiming Rogun had his eyes on Syreena. Returning to Viidu, they needed time to slice the data with the kit Corso had found. So, to stall Rogun as long as possible, Viidu sent the smuggler to get a canister of some special chemicals from a nearby village, which Corso called the Big Boom Run. Before they headed out, Corso wanted a word, giving his SoroSuub SSK heavy blaster named Flashy. With this blaster, the smuggler went towards Oradam village to meet the scientist Trymbo.[8]

In Oradam village, the smuggler went to Trymbo's house. There they found his wife, informing them Trymbo was out fishing. At the fishing camp on the beach, it quickly became obvious Trymbo was delusional, talking about Gundark friends, Alderaanian stew, his wife dying 20 years ago and Ugnaught assassins in the woods attacking everyone who visited him. Nonetheless, the smuggler got the chemicals from Trymbo and returned to Viidu.[9]

Infiltrating the separatists' stronghold[]

Viidu secured Trymbo's chemicals, saying it saved their necks as Rogun will be busy selling it. In the meantime, Corso had cracked the separatist data and found Skavak, still in possession of all the stolen items, including the smuggler's ship. Skavak was taking the blasters into the separatists' stronghold, in the heart of Mount Avilatan, a volcano. There, he would be delivering the blasters to a man named Dareg. Corso went along with the smuggler to infiltrate the stronghold and intercept Skavak.[10]

Reaching the separatist stronghold, they fought their way through the base, making it to the separatist leader Dareg. However, Dareg was not interested in talking and wanted to kill Corso and the smuggler for killing separatists and infiltrating their stronghold. Dareg got killed in the ensuing fight, but one of his man Morant survived and surrendered. He revealed that Skavak was long gone, having left hours ago. Skavak had tricked the separatists, pretending to be on their side so he could steal a rusty antique droid from Dareg. Morant also revealed that Skavak was working with a girl in Fort Garnik, Syreena. Corso then intended to kill Morant, as the separatists killed his family and he promised to kill every last separatist. But the smuggler stopped him, since Morant hadn't done anything.[11]

At Rendia Freight, the smuggler and Corso found Syreena. They overheard her talk with Skavak on the holo about how Syreena killed Viidu since he saw her talking to separatists and threatened to turn her over to Rogun the Butcher. Syreena counted on Skavak getting her out of there, but Skavak had deceived her and was not getting her out of there nor would he pay her for the work she had done for him. Confronted by the smuggler and Corso, Syreena wanted to get away quickly, as Rogun the Butcher's bounty hunters were on their way. She informed them Skavak went to Coruscant. In exchange for staying alive, Syreena got them tickets for a shuttle to Coruscant, which made Corso happy as he didn't like hurting women. After that, Corso decided to stay with the smuggler and went to the spaceport together.[12]

Coruscant[]

At the spaceport, two of Rogun the Butcher's bounty hunters, the Kel Dor Xo'ru and the Mon Calamari Kindin, arrived at the spaceport. Refusing to stand down, they were both killed by the smuggler. They proceeded to take a shuttle to Coruscant.[13]

After checking in at the Customs Terminal on Coruscant, Corso mentioned he knew of a Gambler, who kept tabs on everything worth knowing about Coruscant, named Darmas Pollaran. Through Viidu's holofrequency contacts, they spoke to Darmas. He told them to meet him at his private cantina booth, where he was playing sabacc. On the way there, Corso informed Darmas about Viidu's fate.[14]

Working with Darmas Pollaran[]

Meeting Darmas, he introduced himself as a sabacc player and information resource without equal. He mentioned Skavak was well known in the galactic underworld, having earned death sentences across the galaxy for crimes from armed robbery to kidnapping. He was also known for being in the Sith Empire's pocket and even cheating at cards. Darmas informed the smuggler that Skavak had recently used the services of Kixi, a Mirialan data slicer in the Migrant Merchants' Guild headquarters. With this information, Corso and the smuggler set out to meet Kixi.[15]

Darmas Pollaran

The informant who helped them on Coruscant, Darmas Pollaran

Traveling to the Migrant Merchants' Guild headquarters, the smuggler had to get an access card from the Guild enforcers in the area in order to enter the headquarters. Having taken one of these access cards, Corso and the smuggler entered the headquarters. There, they met Kixi, who was imprisoned by the Migrant Merchants' Guild, slicing the Republic database for them. She was forced to clear Skavak's record out of the Republic database. On the promise of getting freed, she gladly put his record back into the database, even adding false information such as being a carrier of the Bothan Nether Rot disease. After that, the smuggler returned to Darmas.[16]

With Skavak's record being reinstated into the Republic database, the smuggler returned to Darmas in his private booth. Darmas revealed that his sources tell him that Skavak was doing business with the Black Sun gang, a dangerous friendship. The Black Sun gang was notorious for keeping holorecordings of all their meetings, which would include Skavak's visit. For security reasons, the Black Sun kept their holorecordings in fragments spread across different computers.[17]

Dealings with the Black Sun[]

To get to the segmented holorecordings, the smuggler and Corso traveled to the Black Sun headquarters, in the Black Sun–controlled sector on Coruscant. There they fought their way through the guards, getting to the four segmented recordings. With the segmented recordings, they went into the secure holovault, fighting more guards, to access the recordings. Activating the holoviewer, they saw a meeting between Skavak and a Cathar male named Urbax, a bounty hunter for the Black Sun. The two of them had known each other for some time, with Urbax mentioning it'd been a long time since he'd seen Skavak. Skavak had contacted Urbax because a lawman from the Outer Rim was going after him, sticking to him like a mynock on a power coupling. Urbax got paid by Skavak to go after the lawman, who was at a docking bay in the spaceport.[18]

Because this lawman might have known where to find Skavak, the smuggler went to the spaceport to intercept Urbax and save the lawman. After dealing with the Black Sun lookouts, they confronted Urbax, who was about to kill the lawman, a male Sullustan named Miel Muwn who was a designated officer of the Sullustan Constable Brigade. Noticing the smuggler and Corso, Miel deputized them under Article 11607 of the Emergency Service Laws, as Urbax and his men were interfering in a criminal investigation. Refusing to stand down, the smuggler killed Urbax in the ensuing fight, with the help of Miel. Grateful for the assistance, Miel formally introduced himself to the smuggler, who now that the danger was over was no longer a deputy but an upstanding citizen once again. He told the smuggler he was after Skavak, as he was wanted by the government of Sullust for high crimes. Skavak had stolen a priceless relic, the Murustavan Ruby, a one-of-a-kind gem as large as a fist that had been mined from the depths of Sullust millennia ago. Miel suggested working together, as they both had the same goal of finding Skavak, which the smuggler accepted. Corso then suggested leaving before the local security showed up, so they headed back to Darmas.[18]

Returning to Darmas' private cantina booth, the smuggler and Corso were stopped by three of Rogun the Butcher's bounty hunters, Egara, Riloh and Scorch. Although Egara insisted on killing the smuggler, as the bounty was worth more than they could earn in a month, the smuggler convinced them otherwise. Instead, the smuggler convinced the bounty hunters to go after Skavak instead as he'd be unsuspecting. They claimed they had just seen Skavak in Black Sun territory, so the bounty hunters went there.

Going into the Justicar territory[]

Continuing to Darmas, they were going to wait for Skavak to make his next move, so they could find out what Skavak was up to next. In the meantime, they played a round of sabacc, which the smuggler won. After that, Darmas received an alert from his network. His informants told him the Skavak was seeing fighting and fleeing into the territory of the Justicars, heavily armed ex-soldiers vigilantes. Darmas told the smuggler and Corso to go into the Justicar territory and meet his informants, a brother and sister named Jiik and Juul.[19]

Meeting Juul, she was unhappy seeing the smuggler. She blamed the smuggler for her brother Jiik being taken by the Justicars into their detention center, as they were tailing Skavak for the smuggler. Jiik knew where Skavak went, but he was unable to tell Juul before he got taken. So in order to find out where Skavak was, the smuggler had to bust out Jiik. To prevent being seeing on the surveillance of the detention center, the droid eyes would have to be destroyed first. Juul gave the smuggler a holotransmitter, as she wanted to talk to Jiik as soon as he was free. With that, the smuggler headed for the detention center.[20]

Once they arrived at the detention center, Corso and the smuggler destroyed several security cameras to move unseen towards the cells. When they reached the cells, they found Miel, locked up and asking the upstanding citizen for help. Miel got ambushed by Skavak who ran away. The Justicars interrupted his pursuit of Skavak and asked him to surrender, which he did since he believed the Justicars to be the local law. The smuggler then freed Miel from his cell, so he could continue his pursuit of Skavak as well.[21]

When Miel was free, the smuggler moved on to the next cell, where Jiik was. The smuggler called Juul on the given holotransmitter to talk to Jiik, who was very beaten up by the Justicars. Jiik mentioned he saw something he wasn't supposed to: Justicars trading supplies with the Empire. Skavak was with the Imperials, laughing about something, before joining the Imperials in the Works. Juul mentioned the Works were toxic ruins, full of berserk droids where they wouldn't last five minutes, although Corso said they were pretty good and bet they'd last at least ten. After that, Jiik was freed, and he would meet his sister to hide from the Justicars.[22]

Chase into the Works[]

Arriving in the Works, the smuggler intercepted Skavak at a meeting with Imperials. Skavak handed the stolen Murustavan Ruby over to Imperial Commander Kasstroff. The Commander intended to use the ruby as a centerpiece for his gift for the Grand Moff, hoping to get a promotion and even being allowed to go back to Dromund Kaas. In return Skavak would get an item, a grotesque trophy, which he led the Empire deliver to a starship merchant named Fabizan at his docking bay. The smuggler interrupted the meeting, much to the distaste of the Imperial Commander, Meanwhile, Miel made his way into the area as well. Skavak mentioned he wasn't too happy about his record being fouled by the smuggler, but then remarked how Rogun increased the bounty on the smuggler as well. Skavak ran away, leaving the Imperial Commander to deal with the smuggler and Corso. Miel entered, demanding the Imperial lawbreakers surrender, since they were in violation of Statute 1983 of the Sullustan Criminal Code. Miel informed them he'd disabled their comlinks, so he urged the Imperials to surrender. However, the Imperials opened fire, hitting Miel. After the smuggler and Corso killed the Imperials, they talked to Miel. He said he wouldn't be filing any reports anymore, that he couldn't maintain his pursuit of Skavak. He gifted the smuggler something to help their pursuit of Skavak: the ruby and an identity chip to access the docking bay Skavak fled to. With his final breath, Miel asked the smuggler to bring Skavak to justice, for him.[23]

Arriving at docking bay 87, the smuggler and Corso were greeted by Fabizan, a male Bith. Fabizan had taken care of the smuggler's ship and all the cargo still in it, even detailed the cargo. After being beaten, Fabizan offered to upgrade the starship in exchange for being allowed to leave, which the smuggler accepted. After that, the smuggler finally claimed their ship again and checked the cargo hold.[24]

When checking the ship's cargo hold, the smuggler found Risha inside, who had been traveling with Skavak as part of a business arrangement to deliver the items in the cargo hold. Since Skavak had proven unreliable, Risha offered to work with the smuggler instead. Then, on the ship's holo, Skavak called. After realizing he lost the ship he stole, he put the smuggler at the top of his list of people to kill. Skavak had sold the blasters the smuggler was supposed to deliver to Rogun the Butcher on Ord Mantell, threatening the smuggler with the danger that was Rogun. Risha told Skavak they'd be selling the cargo on the ship, which he called the biggest mistake of their lives. Risha informed the captain that the cargo on the ship were pieces to a key, that unlocked the lost treasure of Nok Drayen, a very rich dead man. She called Nok the greatest gangster who ever lived, personally wiping out the Rath Cartel and Vandelhelm Combine during the Syndicate Wars. Since she was the only who could trade the items to get Nok's treasure, the captain agreed to the partnership.[25]

Hunt for Nok Drayen's treasure[]

Skavak

The Voidhound's nemesis, Skavak

Aboard the ship, Risha offered the smuggler a chance to find the lost treasure of Nok Drayen. All Ace had to do was make a few deliveries to certain planets in exchange for ship parts required to find the treasure.[1]

Taris[]

On Taris, the smuggler's contact was Beryl Thorne, a smuggler who wasn't on particularly good terms with Risha. She and the smuggler came to an agreement: Ace would help her with her contract and she'd help them find the radiation vault containing astrogation charts needed for their treasure hunt. During Ace's business, the Republic Customs Office agent Soganti was investigating Thorne, suspecting her of smuggling Tarisian relics. Thorne tasked the smuggler with sending supplies to a Doctor Vernan in the eastern part of the resettlement zone.

Thorne sent them deeper in the ruins, this time to recover some planetary core samples from a core-drilling engineer named Ovold. However, the samples were stolen by scavengers along with important equipment, and so he had to direct Ace in the direction of the pirate base instead.

When Ace arrived in the pirate base, it was revealed that the thief was Tyrodall, Thorne's previous assistant, who faked his death. He offered the smuggler some Tarisian relics, which were smuggled off planet by Thorne disguised as core samples. However, Tyrodall and Thorne had different views on who to sell them to. Thorne wanted to sell them to Tarisian descendants at a lower price, while Tyrodall preferred to sell them on the Imperial black market at a higher price. Ace refused the Devaronian's offer, resulting in a shootout that killed Tyrodall and his droid bodyguards. Ace returned the contraband to Thorne and confronted her for her underhanded operation, in which she admitted that she was returning the relics to the descendants of former Tarisian residents for a much smaller fee. With her contract with the Republic fulfilled, Thorne upheld her end of the deal by having a technician who had access to the Republic sensor array, locating the vault in Zone Zero, a designated no man's land said to harbor monsters worse than rakghouls.

Following Thorne's advice to ask Risha for a method to reach the vault, Ace returned to their ship, where Risha informed them that Skavak had hired a team of mercenaries to search for the vault. After being provided with a Geonosian slicer module to open the vault, Ace disembarked, only to be confronted Soganti, who had his suspicions on how Thorne was smuggling contraband but lacked proof. He offered a generous bribe in exchange for testimony, but Ace refused to betray Thorne, forcing the defeated customs agent to leave.

Ace traveled to Transport Station 5 and fought through hordes of rakghouls until they reached Zone Zero and found Skavak's mercenaries just outside the vault door. The mercenary leader, Roksur, startled by Ace's appearance, called Skavak on the holocomm, who subsequently ordered the mercenaries to kill Ace. Ace fought back and killed the mercenaries before cracking the vault and retrieving the charts. Ace then returned to the ship, where Risha explained that the charts once belonged to a Tarisian Exchange gangster named Davik Kang, who mapped a series of uncharted hyperlanes in the stretch of galaxy between the Core Worlds and the Outer Rim.

Nar Shaddaa[]

Drooga

Ace's client on the Smuggler's Moon, Drooga

The next stop on the smuggler's itinerary was Nar Shaddaa, the Smuggler's Moon. The delivery made was the male Shanjaru that was held in the cargo hold in exchange for a prototype starship engine. But their client, Drooga the Hutt, was victim of a theft. A group of eco-terrorists had stolen his female Shanjaru, and he was no longer interested in the male the smuggler had.

However, Drooga's servant Ga'ram assisted the smuggler, giving the coordinates of the eco-terrorist base, where they met with Tyrka, one of Momi Andrell's friends. After convincing her that it was a misunderstanding and that they were there to help, she gave them a datapad with which they could find a Doctor Lazhae. Lazhae, however, was a sadistic doctor held in Shadow Town, where he was conducting experiments on Momi.

During one of the times the smuggler was on Drooga's pleasure barge, they were ambushed by Rogun the Butcher's personal bounty hunter, Zank Helrott. With the help of the Wookiee Bowdaar, whom the smuggler helped in a fight earlier, they killed him.

Lazhae left the premises and sent the Shanjaru to Drooga, after which the smuggler freed Momi. While she asked for Ace to kill her, the smuggler convinced her to keep hope. She gave Ace the Shanjaru genetic samples, asking them to bring them to Coruscant, to a Twi'lek scientist named Daru'da.

With the Shanjaru delivered, Drooga gave the starship engine, and Risha immediately started to install it. Before leaving, Drooga ordered for Bowdaar to approach. Poisoned, he was to fight a ferocious, starved gundark. Ace entered the fight and helped kill it. Drooga decided that the Wookiee was no longer worth the costs, and let him free. Bowdaar made a new addition to the crew shortly after.

Ambush on the Celestial Crow[]

After finishing business on Nar Shaddaa, the smuggler was contacted by Captain Feylara Raed of the Celestial Crow. Raed claimed her ship was damaged and drifting towards a sun, and the smuggler traveled to assist her. However, it was a ruse. Feylara was an ex-girlfriend of Skavak's, hoping to regain his affections by killing his rival. Protected by a ray shield, she ordered assassin droids to kill the captain, although they easily overcame them.[26]

When her ray shield dispersed, Skavak cut the transmission, leaving her with the smuggler. Ace let her live, telling her to find someone better.[26]

Tatooine[]

Diago Hixan

Nok Drayen's former rival, Diago Hixan

One of the parts required for the ship was a sensor computer stolen from one of Nok Drayen's warehouses following his death. It was stolen by Drayen's rival, Diago Hixan, who was seldom seen nowadays. One of Hixan's men, Tookreek, was willing to help get a meeting. But the means to meet Hixan, a small Krayt Dragon tooth, was lost when Geonosians attacked one of their warehouses and killed the lieutenant holding it, and the men tasked with finding it were slain in a fight which involved Jedi Knight Nariel Pridence.

Fighting their way through the Geonosians, the smuggler found the Krayt Dragon tooth on a desk in the upper office of the warehouse. At that moment, a Sith, Vaverone Zare, walked in, admitting to being the one who sent the Geonosians to the warehouse in the hope of attracting Hixan's attention. Believing the smuggler to be one of Hixan's men, she tried to convince Ace to get her a meeting with him.

When the Krayt Dragon tooth was brought back to Tookreek at Hixan's summer palace, he revealed where Hixan was located: The Lightspring, located deep in the desert. At that moment, Imperials under Vaverone Zare attacked the palace. After fighting their way out, Ace travelled to the Lightspring to confront Diago Hixan and retrieve the sensor computer.

However, already there was Nariel Pridence, and shortly afterwards Vaverone Zare arrived. Risha also contacted the smuggler, not having heard from Ace in a while, unaware that Hixan was present. She cut the transmission shortly, angering Hixan. A fight broke out shortly afterwards, resulting in the deaths of Diago Hixan, Tookreek and Vaverone Zare.

Alderaan[]

Voidhound Alderaan

The smuggler lands on Alderaan

With the sensor computer installed, the captain set course for Alderaan. There, they were to deliver an ancient GNK droid to members of House Teraan. The nobles tasked the smuggler with retrieving an ancient datapad from their house, which had been taken over by the displaced House Baliss.

After returning the datapad along with some of the treasures of House Teraan, Risha gave Ace the next job: The preserved head of the Sith Lord Darth Bandon, which was to be delivered to the curator of the House Alde museum in exchange for an Arkanian hyperdrive. By the time they got there, however, Skavak had already traded a fake head for the hyperdrive. Ace quickly gave chase after "borrowing" one of House Alde's speeder bikes, but Skavak shut down the hanger blast doors as they arrived, forcing the smuggler to override the door. That gave Skavak enough time to flee to the Rhu Caenus Spaceport in Imperial territory, where he could safely install the hyperdrive.

Risha blackmailed a noble, Baron Venar, into giving Ace a spaceport pass in order to access Skavak's hanger. Inside was a group of mercenaries paid by him to guard his ship and a Neimoidian mechanic named Vonddado Briimyo, who was held there by Skavak to install the hyperdrive. He was let free and took a shuttle out of there, while Ace took the hyperdrive back to Risha.

As Ace was about to leave, Cedonia Teraan contacted them by holo: Following their theft at the Baliss estate, Duke Baliss sent his son Xin Baliss to challenge Lenn Teraan to a blaster duel to the death. But as Lenn didn't learn to master the blaster, they asked Ace to fight as their champion. In a swift duel in the Teraan suite, the famed duelist was slain. Lenn and Cedonia fled Alderaan shortly afterwards before House Baliss attempted more attacks.

Ambush on Tatooine[]

As they departed Alderaan, Risha got a holo from an old friend, Juran, who said that his wife Audila, another old friend of Risha's, was kidnapped by assassins and held in an abandoned Czerka mining complex on Tatooine. They immediately left for Tatooine once more, making their way deep in the facility.

When Risha and Ace arrived, the assassins revealed they never intended to let Audila live, as their "liege" had ordered there be no witnesses. They were killed, although Audila blamed Risha for the event happening in the first place. Thanks to Ace, they parted on decent terms, and Risha promised to tell her one day why it happened, and to trust her in the meantime.

The final stretch[]

Nok Drayen

The legendary crimelord Nok Drayen

After gathering all the supplies that Ace's ship needed, the crew went to a special facility on Nar Shaddaa to deliver the man in the cargo hold, still frozen in carbonite. The facility was a medical center, which had only ever taken care of one individual: crime lord Nok Drayen, who, after being betrayed by one of his most trusted lieutenants and being infected with an incurable virus, had himself frozen. He revealed Risha to be his daughter and only child. He gave Ace the coordinates the smuggler needed to head to a ship with his entire fortune aboard—a ship that had for years been slowly sucked in by a black hole in a deadly region of space known as The Long Shadow.

After fighting through an army of ancient droids, the smuggler found the fortune—sealed in a vault, and guarded by even more, much more powerful droids. After defeating them, Ace unlocked the vault, and it was revealed the fortune was a single object: the lost, priceless crown of the planet Dubrillion, of which Nok Drayen was the rightful heir to its throne. Ace headed back to the ship to find none other than Skavak, who had stored himself aboard. In a swift but brutal gunfight, Skavak was killed, and Ace retrieved Torchy.[1]

Heading back to Nar Shaddaa, Ace came into the facility as Nok Drayen was dying. He told Risha to kill Ace, take the crown, and take back the throne of Dubrillion. She refused, and with his dying words, he told Risha, his only heir to his legacy, his only daughter, how disappointed he was in her. Risha swore to take back the throne, and Ace pondered what it would be like to rule a whole world—specifically, all the wealth that would come with it.[1]

Republic privateer[]

Shortly after retrieving Nok Drayen's fortune, Ace's crew was contacted by Darmas Pollaran, the man who helped them find Skavak on Coruscant. He asked to meet the smuggler at Port Nowhere to offer a business proposition.

Ambush at Port Nowhere[]

Ace and Darmas were attacked by Rogun's men while in Port Nowhere, and met Senator Bevera Dodonna, who told the two of Harridax Kirill, also known as "The Voidwolf," and how Rogun was his right-hand man—indeed, his lapdog—and that to stop the Voidwolf, Ace would have to take out Rogun and his criminal empire.[1]

Grand Admiral Harridax Kirill, alias "The Voidwolf"

Ace became a privateer for the Galactic Republic, Dodonna acting as benefactor. Ace went on to support the Republic and take down and take over Rogun's criminal empire. This included securing Project Nebula on Balmorra, terminating Rogun's supporters in the White Maw pirate organization stationed on Hoth and forming a partnership with Rogun's old mentor, Ivory, whom Rogun had attempted to assassinate in his prison cell on Belsavis. The Voidhound also shut down Rogun the Butcher's illegal smuggling ring on Voss.

Eventually it was revealed that Dodonna and Darmas had lied: Rogun was, in fact, working against the Voidwolf, and Dodonna had sold out the Republic in exchange for a promise by the Empire that she would get her own planet to rule, and all the work she had Ace do was helping the Empire, not the Republic. Darmas was later revealed to be an undercover Imperial Agent. This caused Rogun to accost Ace as a traitor when he was cornered on Tatooine.

Rogun fought with Ace to take down the Sith Purebloods sent to eliminate them both by the Voidwolf, realizing that the smuggler had been tricked. From then on, Rogun agreed to work with Ace, leaving for Port Nowhere to gather support for their mutual cause while his wayward employee continued the fight the Voidwolf.

Darmas and Dodonna were taken into custody by Ace for their betrayal, and Ace later killed the Voidwolf after a firefight aboard his flagship, the Regnant. In an attempt to escape, Kirill threw a grenade, but Ace calmly picked it up and threw it back just in time for it to detonate. In killing the Voidwolf, Ace gained control of his pirate fleet, but was at a crossroads on how to use it. Ace could pledge the fleet to the Republic or abandon any interest in politics and become a pirate, attacking both the Empire and the Republic. Ultimately, Ace chose to aid the Republic

Upon returning to Coruscant, Ace was met by Supreme Commander Rans and Supreme Chancellor Saresh, who awarded the smuggler the Medal of Service (at the time, the highest decoration that could be bestowed upon a civilian), and extended a renewed offer of privateer sponsorship. Accepting, Ace departed Coruscant with an eclectic group of companions, in search of new adventures.

Continued travels[]

The Voidhound's journeys throughout the galaxy eventually landed the smuggler on Rishi, where the Voidhound reunited with Beryl Thorne, who had a business proposition. Since the Republic-Hutt Cartel alliance, Garblaque the Hutt had planned to leave known space in his luxury dreadnaught called Haven on a ten-year pleasure cruise, believing the war would be over when he returned, but the Hutt had to auction off the seats to pay for the voyage. Thorne had learned that the pirates in Raider's Cove had stolen dozens of tickets, and she planned to steal them to sell them for ten times the price and split the profit between the two smugglers. However, the pirates had stashed their tickets all over town, and there was no time to search every hiding place. The Voidhound followed Thorne's instructions to conduct raids on the pirates' property, spooking the pirates to send out courier droids to retrieve their tickets. The Voidhound found one such crate carrying the tickets, but was attacked by a Houk pirate who laid claim to them. After dispatching the pirate, the Voidhound returned to Thorne with two dozen tickets, only to learn that the loot was less than valuable, which was reserved for ammonia-breathers and non-humanoids on deck seven. The Voidhound then offered their opinion on how to utilize those tickets and how Thorne should continue her life.

Following Revan's defeat and the resurrection of the Sith Emperor on Yavin 4, Theron Shan personally handed the Voidhound a card programmed with authorization codes from the director of the SIS that would grant the smuggler immunity from Republic prosecution of any kind. The Voidhound was tasked with taking any jobs available to get a lead on the former Emperor's whereabouts.

Personality and traits[]

Intelligent, flirtatious, and often humorous in the face of threat, the Voidhound could always get out of a situation, through either charm or blasters. Voidhound was willing to take most jobs in the name of credits yet never turned against the Republic, even if it caused trouble for its members at times.

Behind the scenes[]

This article represents the character story of the smuggler player class in Star Wars: The Old Republic, a video game from LucasArts and BioWare. As a result of being player determined, no canonical description of this individual is currently available; therefore, the article presents the subject's gender as neutral.[1] The male smuggler is voiced by Maury Sterling and the female by Kath Soucie. The smuggler can be one of several species: human, Mirialan, Twi'lek, Zabrak or cyborg. With game update 1.2, smugglers could access Imperial species: Rattataki, Chiss, and Sith Pureblood. However, an in-game dialogue with an Imperial commander, in which the smuggler pretends to be a Chiss Aristocra, suggests the smuggler was not, in fact, a Chiss. With Game Update 2.1, the Cathar is also a potential species.

The smuggler story was co-written by Hall Hood and Jennifer Hepler. According to Hall Hood, who was also in charge of maintaining consistency throughout the Republic storylines, the decision to make the Smuggler a Republic class was inspired by Han Solo's loyalty to the Rebel Alliance in the original trilogy. Solo's personality and comments during the trilogy were also a large inspiration for much of the comedic content for the class.[27]

In the base game, the Smuggler is only called "Voidhound" on one occasion, after following the dark-side path at the very end of the final class quest. Under certain circumstances, the Smuggler could instead be called "Bandit King"[28] or "Republic's Shield."[29] In Star Wars: The Old Republic: Shadow of Revan, Voidhound is used on one occasion during the Smuggler class quest on Rishi, regardless of the player's character past actions.[30]
