Across the Burning Sands of Tatooine is a short story originally published in the Galaxy Guide 1: A New Hope.
[edit] Plot
In Rebel Alliance historian Voren Na'al's personal account of his arrival on Tatooine to research the events that occurred there leading up to the Battle of Yavin, he encounters a group of Jawas at the Mos Eisley Cantina who sell him R5-D4 and a power droid. Initially upset upon discovering the R5 droid's faulty motivator, he is pleased to learn they were present for the sale of C-3PO and R2-D2 to Owen Lars and Luke Skywalker. After retrieving the information he needed from the droids, Na'al gave the power droid to a moisture farmer and sold R5-D4 to the Imperial Prefect's assistant administrator. He intends for the R5 droid -- who he nicknames Red -- to serve as a spy for the Alliance, a fact known only to Momaw Nadon.
