Behind the scenesEdit

In the real-world Air Commodore is a rank in the Royal Air Force and several other Commonwealth air forces. It ranks above Group Captain and immediately below Air Vice-Marshal and is equivalent to Commodore in the Royal Navy and Brigadier in the British Army.

The corresponding rank is Brigadier General in the USAF and many other air forces, ranking above Colonel and below Major General. These air forces simply borrow the rank system of their country's army, with little or no adaption.

Although an RAF-style rank of Air Marshal has been referred to, the canonical situation is that starfighter officers of the Galactic Empire and other major powers like the New Republic normally use army-style ranks such as Colonel and General.
