The Akkad was a terrorist sect of the Mon Calamari. Its name translated to Deep Dwellers.
History[]
The Akkad was a secret faction of Mon Calamari that wished to have no association with either the Galactic Empire or the Rebel Alliance. The sect considered both factions, characterized by them as manipulative and destructive, harmful to their traditional way of life.
Members attempted to hijack a Corellian Translines passenger ship and broadcast its destruction to a popular newsnet, killing all onboard in the process. The hijackers were able to smuggle weapons and explosives onboard the flight, due to either an accomplice within the starport or spaceliner personnel or their armaments being of unusual design. The attack was planned to increase the group's notoriety and alienate other Mon Calamari from galactic society, including Rebel Admiral Gial Ackbar.
Behind the scenes[]
This faction was set to appear in Star Wars Adventure Journal 16 as part of the Corellian Translines article where they were to feature as antagonists for players to face. However, said issue was never published and the Akkad have not featured in any other material published since.
