Akul

The Akul was a large orange-furred carnivorous predator, native to the planet Shili. They were the only creature that the Togrutas fear, and could attack and destroy settlements and villages. Togrutas often hunted this creature and made beautiful necklaces and headdresses out of its teeth. Akul were known for the strength of their jaws. They thrived in captivity, but sometimes developed alibism. Akul often devastated the planetary ecosystems they were introduced to. Akul where captured on Shili and sold to zoos and performers as they are popular show animals and can be trained to perform tricks.[source?]

The Akul was named by Helen Keier, co-author of The New Essential Guide to Alien Species. The name is a tuckerism for Star Wars fan Gary Tucker's orange pomeranian Luka (backward spelling Akul).[source?]
