The all-purpose mass driver cannon was based on flak guns found on various All Terrain Anti Aircraft, Munificent-class star frigates, and Providence-class carrier/destroyers. Each was simply a modified flak gun that could hold several types of ammunition. Additionally, most known types of ammunition could fit in the same canisters used to store flak, making the all purpose mass driver cannon capable of firing most any type of warhead or projectile.

Most standard canisters were known to have these types of shot: Assault proton torpedoes (2 shots per canister); assault concussion missiles (4 shots per canister); seismic charges (one shot per canister); and flak (one shot per canister). Often, these guns were seen on various pirate warships and mercenary ships that dated to the time of the Clone Wars.
