History
Edit
Discovered between 3,000 BBY and 1,000 BBY by the Galactic Republic, Altair 9 had been located within the Empire of Darth Revan during the Jedi Civil War and the Mandalorian Empire before that. It remained within Sith territory until the end of the New Sith Wars when the Republic defeated the Brotherhood of the Sith and restored peace to the galaxy.[3]
Located on the edge of space controlled by the Confederacy of Independent Systems, the planet was involved in a small skirmish between the Republic and the Separatists. Fighting on the ground, ARC Trooper Alpha-98 was attacked by a broca whilst fighting against the Separatist Droid Army.[2]
Absorbed into the Galactic Empire following the fall of the Republic, Altair remained in Imperial control even after the death of Emperor Palpatine in 4 ABY. Taken over by Warlord Zsinj's Empire, the world was in contested space through out Zsinj's and Grand Admiral Mitth'raw'nuruodo's campaigns to defeat the New Republic. While planets in the surrounding space were conquered by the Yuuzhan Vong, it is unknown if it too fell to the alien invaders.[3]
As of 137 ABY, the world was deep in space controlled by Darth Krayt's Empire.[3]
Behind the scenes
Edit
Altair is the name of a well-known star in Earth's own Galaxy, and the use of this name in Star Wars can be compared to the references to Rigel 7; but the use of Arabic rather than Roman numerals in the source, "Altair 9" rather than "Altair IX", suggests that Altair 9 may be the ninth moon of a gas-giant named Altair, rather than the ninth planet of a star of that name.
