History

Discovered sometime between 5,000 and 3,000 BBY, Altyr V was originally conquered by the Mandalorians during the Mandalorian Wars. Later falling to the Sith Empire of Darth Revan, the planet remained contested as the Brotherhood of Darkness attempted to control the galaxy. By the time of the Ruusan Reformation, the planet was in the hands of the Galactic Republic.[2]
Aligning with the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars, Altyr V was the site of a battle during which Clone commander Deviss and his forces destroyed the Separatist ion cannon established on planet. With the cannon inactive the Grand Army of the Republic was able to rout the Separatist forces and reclaim Altyr V for the Republic.[4]
When the Galactic Empire rose to power the Imperial regime took over control of the planet, placing it within Oversector Outer. As the Empire became more destabilized at the close of the Galactic Civil War, the New Republic established a base on Altyr V. In 10 ABY, Jedi Knight Kyle Katarn was stationed on the planet acting as Captain along with his temporary apprentice Mara Jade. During their stay, the Imperial Remnant began an assault on the planet. The Republic forces found out that the Remnant had manned two modified asteroids, which they used to bombard the planet, pinning the Republic forces down until a large-scale assault could be staged. Katarn managed to travel to one of the asteroids and redirect its weapon to the other asteroid, destroying it. He then circumvented the weapon's cooling system, destroying the one he was on, barely escaping himself. It was during this mission he learned of an Imperial presence on Dromund Kaas, leading to his fateful brush with the Dark side of the Force.[3]
Conquered by the Yuuzhan Vong during their invasion of the galaxy, the planet turned to the Galactic Alliance for assistance after they drove the invaders out.[2] Following years of recovery, Altyr V was granted representation in the Galactic Alliance Senate. During the Second Galactic Civil War, representatives from Altyr V condemned the actions of the Galactic Alliance Guards raids on Corellian citizens on Coruscant and joined the Confederation.[5] As of 137 ABY, Altyr was a member of Darth Krayt's Galactic Empire.[2]
Behind the scenesEdit
The planet Altyr V was created for the expansion pack named Jedi Knight: Mysteries of the Sith. It was later charted on a map of the Second Galactic Civil War in the The Essential Atlas.
