Publisher's summary[]

"ALWAYS HELP OTHERS."

In Anakin to the Rescue, Anakin is supposed to wait for Qui-Gon outside the Jedi Temple. But Anakin hates waiting! And when he and Jar Jar find a lost little boy, Anakin knows he must help him. He wants to be brave and good, just like a Jedi Knight!

Plot summary[]

Anakin Skywalker, newly arrived on Coruscant from Tatooine, is waiting outside the Jedi Temple for Qui-Gon Jinn to arrive with news of the Council's decision about Anakin's application to join the Order. Tired of waiting, he decides to walk around the neighborhood. Jar Jar Binks follows him in order to keep Anakin out of trouble. Before long, both beings have strayed too far and cannot see the Temple.

Suddenly, trouble comes into view when a malfunctioning nanny droid runs past them, leaving its charge, a boy named Finn, lost and confused. Anakin, who has recently been separated from his own mother, empathizes with Finn. He determines to help catch the droid and fix its programming. The slapstick chase leads Anakin, Jar Jar, and Finn through a hall of mirrors, an airbus, and a traffic intersection, where Jar Jar arouses the ire of a road-raged Gotal. Finally, the droid becomes stuck in a garbage chute infested with spider-roaches which Jar Jar finds edible. Anakin fixes the droid's crossed wires, and the droid leads them to Finn's home. Finn's mother has her droid chauffeur drive Anakin and Jar Jar back to the Temple.

Qui-Gon is waiting worriedly for Anakin at the Temple. Anakin explains what happened, and that his mother advised him to help people in distress. Qui-Gon says he understands, and that Anakin behaved like a true Jedi.

Trivia[]

On page 28, passengers on the airbus resemble Han Solo and Chewbacca, even though Han Solo was not yet born when the story takes place. This is may be an in-joke on the creators' part.
