John Gregory Betancourt's short story And the Band Played On: The Band's Tale tells the story of the Max Rebo Band who picked the wrong time and the wrong place for a gig, and the wrong employer. It appeared in Tales from Jabba's Palace published by Bantam Spectra in January 1996, and since it was published in 1996, the line-up of the band is the one known from the Original trilogy before the 1997 Special Edition.
