Antar 4 was the fourth of six moons orbiting the gas giant Antar and was homeworld of the Gotal race. The planet had wild seasons, extreme tidal variations, and strange phases of light and dark caused by the parent planet eclipsing the sun and reflecting the light from the system's star. Sixty percent of Antar 4 was covered by water. Its rotation even prevented ice caps from forming at its poles.

Principal elements on Antar 4 included silicon, nickel, and iron. Magnetite, which was the most abundant, would form from the presence of the iron and was invaluable to life on the moon. Xenobiologists believe that the magnetite's magnetism in conjunction with the stars' electromagnetic field led to the unique sensory abilities acquired by the Gotal.

Antar 4 joined the Galactic Republic over 4,000 BBY.

In 620 BBY, the Antarian Ranger tradition began on the planet, and spread across the galaxy. From 35 BBY to 33 BBY, Jorus C'baoth helped mediate the Duinuogwuin-Gotal Conflict.

[edit] Separatist Crisis

In 23 BBY, the Battle of Antar 4 occurred. The Roshu Sune terrorists massacred the local chapter houses of the Antarian Rangers, putting forth articles of secession, which the Galactic Senate refused to recognize. The planet was retaken by Antarian Rangers from abroad and Jedi led by Masters Saesee Tiin and Coleman Trebor. The violence prompted many Gotals to move to Atzerri.

[edit] Clone Wars

Antar 4 was conquered by the Confederacy of Independent Systems seven months into the Clone Wars. Count Dooku set up a command HQ in a castle on the moon. During the Separatist occupation, many Gotals were forced to live in poverty.

The planet was part of the Galactic Empire, the New Republic, and the Galactic Alliance.

Native Senator Ta'laam Ranth was a member of the High Council.
