"I am Asha; sister of Kneesaa; daughter of the great Chief Chirpa."
―Asha[2]

Asha, known to the Duloks as the Red Ghost, was a female Ewok warrior who was part of a family from Bright Tree Village. She was the daughter of Chief Chirpa and Ra-Lee and the older sister of Princess Kneesaa. Believed dead after a hanadak attacked her and killed her mother, Asha survived with a clan of korrinas. Eventually, Wicket and his friends saw her and told Kneesaa, and the sisters were reunited.

Ra-Lee, Kneesaa, and Asha

Asha was a female Ewok who grew up in Bright Tree Village with her mother, Ra-Lee; father, Chief Chirpa; and younger sister, Princess Kneesaa. She was about six snows older than Kneesaa. One day when Asha was still a child, she was playing by the river when a hanadak attacked her. Her mother told Kneesaa to run for help while she tried to save her oldest daughter;[3] however, Ra-Lee died and Asha disappeared, leaving behind only traces of fur and clothing. After an unsuccessful extended search of the area, her family gave her up for dead. Asha was found by a clan of korrinas, who accepted her and raised her as one of their own.[2]

Asha spent her early adulthood tracking down Dulok fur traders who called her the Red Ghost. Many years later, Wicket and his friends were in the forest when they saw a maramu stag caught in a net. When they went to free it, Asha and one of the korrinas appeared to defend the stag and the frightened friends fled. Wicket told Kneesaa about the encounter and she began to cry, reminded of her sister. After taking out Asha's ripped hood and telling her friend what had happened, Kneesaa had hope that the red-furred warrior was Asha. Wicket and Kneesaa went looking and eventually found her.[2]

Asha agreed to return to her old home after Wicket and Kneesaa helped stop the Duloks. The Ewoks freed trapped animals from their cages and Asha defeated the Duloks. She then returned to Bright Tree Village with her sister.[2]

Personality and traits[]

Asha had red fur[3] like her mother.[2] She was named after a fierce huntress in the Ewoks' mythology.[4] When Asha was reunited with her sister, she spoke with hesitation, not having much call to speak during her time with the korrina pack.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

"Had we done a third season, I'm sure we would have done a few more stories […] with Asha, Kneesaa's sister. We got many letters asking whatever happened to her. We did build her up as a major character and in the second season, we didn't do much with her."
Ewoks story editor Paul Dini in 1988[5]

Asha was created by Paul Dini for Ewoks,[6] where she was voiced by Paulina Gillis.[source?] Many fans sent letters asking about Asha, leading Dini to wish the Ewoks team had told more stories about her after building her up to be a major character.[5]
