In the aftermath of the first skirmish with the Eternal Fleet in 3637 BBY, two prominent figures of the Galactic War—Darth Marr and the Outlander—were taken prisoner and brought before Emperor Valkorion. Prince Arcann, the spiteful son of Valkorion, took advantage of this to carry out an assassination of the Emperor. The Outlander was framed and imprisoned by Arcann in this conspiracy, and Arcann seized the mantle of Emperor, promising to bring a conquest to as far as the Core Worlds themselves for this "act of unprovoked aggression."
