The Battle of Kashyyyk was a fought during the New Sith Wars and waged between the Brotherhood of Darkness and the Galactic Republic.

[edit] Prelude
The Sith were seeking to gain a foothold in the Mid Rim, so they launched an invasion of the Wookiee homeworld, Kashyyyk. The Sith forces included its fleet, The Brotherhood, many infantry units, and some Sith Masters.
[edit] Battle
It wasn't known what the Sith intended to do, but they quickly found themselves at a disadvantage amid the dense wroshyr forests of Kashyyyk with casualties mounting, for the Republic had retreated there. The Sith were being massacred, and considered withdrawing if not for a curious incident involving the Gloom Walkers, a unit sent in the second wave of Sith reinforcements. The High Command used this amazing event as a rallying call, and threw more and more units into the battle.

After being cut off during an engagement with Republic forces and their Wookiee guides, the commanding officer of the unit, Lieutenant Ulabore panicked and lost his nerve. However, a new recruit named Dessel was able to somehow help the unit find their way out; he instinctively knew where the enemy was. During the three days it took for the Gloom Walkers to get back to the base, they fought large numbers of small skirmishes that were very intense, avoided Republic traps and ambushes, and made an incredibly long march through the forest to get back to base.
[edit] Aftermath
After heavy casualties the Sith triumphed and after many days of fighting, the Republic was forced to evacuate to nearby Trandosha. The Sith would soon follow the retreating forces, along with the Gloom Walkers. This caused the eventual Battle of Hsskhor.

Lieutenant Ulabore was given special commendation for his actions, but didn't mention the fact that Dessel had done most of the work. Despite this, Ulabore still promoted Dessel to Seargent, which remained his rank throughout the rest of his time with the Gloom Walkers.
[edit] Behind The Scenes
Dessel did not know it at the time, but his miraculous "instincts" were due to the force sensitivity that would later bring him to the attention of the Sith Lords of the Brotherhood.
