[edit] Biography

[edit] Orphaned

Astraal was the twin sister of Shado Vao; the two were orphaned at birth and taken in by the Imperial Mission after their parents' ship crashed on Vendaxa. While her brother went on to study to become a Jedi, Astraal, also a Force-sensitive, became a Missionary. It is unknown why she wasn't inducted into the Imperial Knights.

[edit] Missionary life

As a Missionary, Astraal worked closely with Moff Konrad Rus and maintained close contact with him no matter where in the galaxy she was. She trusted Rus implicitly, even after the takeover of the Imperial throne by Darth Krayt caused many Moffs to switch allegiances from Emperor Roan Fel to Krayt.

[edit] On the run

When the Imperial Mission at Socorro came under attack in 137 ABY, she persuaded Marasiah Fel to flee and not go back to fight Darth Talon, the Sith who had killed her bodyguard and master, Elke Vetter. As they fled, they came across the Mynock and Cade Skywalker, of whom the Princess demanded passage to Vendaxa. However, Cade had other ideas, specifically, the bounty on the Princess's head.

Returning to the crash-site on Vendaxa where she and her brother promised each other to rendezvous if ever they were in trouble, Astraal, the Princess, and the crew of the Mynock came under attack, first by a ferocious acklay, then by Talon, who had followed them to Vendaxa and was using the dark side to stir up the local fauna against them. Although the arrival of Shado and Wolf Sazen saved everyone from the acklay, the two Jedi were almost no match for the formidable Sith Hand. Only the unexpected use of the Force by bounty hunter Cade Skywalker earned them all a respite from the Sith's assault.

The loss of the Jedi's transport meant a return to the Mynock only for everyone to discover that ship's own sabotage at the hands of Talon, who remained hidden beyond their reach in the shadows of the Vendaxan night. As repairs to the ship got under way, Astraal made a call to Moff Rus, updating him on her and Princess Sia's location. The call, intended to be private, was actually listened to by Rus and Darth Krayt.

When the Sith attacked, trying to claim Sia again, Syn dragged Astraal inside the Mynock, "not wanting her to get hurt", despite her pleas to save the princess. After they get off of Vendaxa, Astraal convinces Antares Draco to allow Skywalker to heal Sia.

[edit] Bastion

Astraal tried to convince her brother to stay on Bastion but he refused saying he had to go with Cade.

[edit] Behind the scenes

Astraal is shown wearing a similar outfit as that of Sheltay Retrac.

In Legacy 5, Astraal was referred to as "Missionary Vao", a nod to Mission Vao (as confirmed by Jan Duursema[1]). In spite of this reference, however, the two are unrelated.[2]
