Augustus Tryll was a man with varied criminal interests including slavery, trafficking in stolen goods, and political betrayal.

Tryll with Obi-Wan Kenobi, who would later save his life.

On one occasion Tryll happened to be traveling on the same pleasure cruiser as Obi-Wan Kenobi and tried to recruit the Jedi into a partnership, but Kenobi declined.

Soon the cruiser was being attacked by Merson pirates and it became known that the pirates were following a signal that originated from within the cruiser, and the passengers immediately suspected Tryll. Kenobi objected to the accusations calling for proof, but the mob wouldn't be calmed. It wasn't until Kenobi discovered that the signal was actually coming from a fermenting device, which he quickly destroyed, did the crowd back off and spare Tryll's life.

While the crisis was on, Tryll demanded that Obi-Wan Kenobi use his Jedi powers to destroy the approaching mob so as to protect Tryll. Even though, Kenobi refused to do so, Tryll dropped to his knees when the ordeal was over, claiming that he did not know how to thank the Jedi General, who declined the criminal's gratitude and retired to his cabin.
