Aur IX was a spherical diamond the size of a terrestrial world. It occupied the ninth orbital position in the[1] Colonies'[3] Aur system. The diamond was believed to have at some point formed the core of a gas giant–type planet, and the creation of the free-floating sphere was widely attributed to members of the Celestial species,[1] which had disappeared from the galaxy by 30,000 BBY.[2] Aur IX, Aur X—a similar spherical object in the Aur system's tenth orbit—and the cloud of diamond fragments occupying the eleventh orbit were collectively known as the Aur Diamonds.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
Aur IX was originally meant to be mentioned in the 2012 reference book The Essential Guide to Warfare by Jason Fry and Paul R. Urquhart; however, the sidebar that would have mentioned the diamond was cut before the book's release. The information regarding the object was later released in 2013 as part of Star Wars: The Essential Guide to Warfare Author's Cut, a series of articles published on the StarWars.com Blog by Fry and Del Rey editor Erich Schoeneweiss containing various cut content from The Essential Guide to Warfare.[1]
