An avatar was a graphic representation of a user. It was often three-dimensional and realistically acted like its namesake. The Sith Emperor used this to fake his own death on Voss when faced by a lone Jedi Knight. The avatar was destroyed, while the Emperor lived on. This was confirmed via Holomail, from the Emperor's Hand to the new Emperor's Wrath.
