An axe (also ax or battle axe) was a type of melee weapon of ancient design.
Description
The axe could be used as a tool, a melee weapon, or a thrown weapon. Some axes were modernized by being constructed of more advanced materials; these were commonly found in explorers' shops. An advanced version of the axe was the vibro-ax. The axe had the advantage of being legal nearly everywhere because no one thought to outlaw such a simple tool. Medium-sized, one-handed axes were crafted so that they could be used effectively as a thrown weapon.[1]
Fringers found this blade very useful in the wilds of untamed planets.[1] The axe was also a main weapon of the Gamorreans, the porcine humanoids from the lush jungle Outer Rim planet of Gamorr. Gamorreans also designed their own larger special axes called Arg'garoks.
History
A weapon of this type was used by Lirondo during the Seventh Battle of Ruusan. The blades on each side of his axe were extremely sharp and could deal considerable damage to opponents.
The legendary Sith King Adas, who lived before the invention of the lightsaber, also used a battle axe as his primary weapon.
When various species were pressed into service by the Galactic Empire, they brought their own traditional axes along with them when they were shipped across the galaxy.[1]
The Ewok woodcutter, Chukha-Trok, was well-known for using his axe as both a tool and a weapon for taking down his enemies.
Axes were also seen in use by Jabba the Hutt's Gamorrean bodyguards.[2]
