Bahm Gilyad lived c. 5000 BBY during the Great Hyperspace War. A doctor, Gilyad defined the code of the doctoral profession. Also, he described how physicians should go about maintaining their own health.

This character is likely named after the healing balm of Gilead referenced in the book of Genesis.
Battle Surgeons mentions Gilyad living during the Stark Hyperspace Conflict 5,000 years before. However, the conflict of that time was the Great Hyperspace War, not the Stark conflict (which was only 24 years prior).
