"Bane Malar. A bounty hunter who, when given the option to deliver his quarry 'dead or alive,' invariably chose the former. By returning with only their heads."
―Eightyem[2]

Bane Malar was a male bounty hunter who specialized in tracking those who escaped the Spice Mines of Kessel. A natural telepath, Malar would use glitterstim to enhance his abilities, which allowed him to invade the minds of those he was hunting down.[1] In 4 ABY,[3] Malar was present in Jabba's Palace during Eightyem's time as Jabba Desilijic Tiure's translator droid.[2]

Biography[]

The Silvan Kaan affair[]

"As it is, Mr. Malar, I'm unclear as to what you want me to tell you."
"You think you've been subtle? You think I haven't seen you having whispered conversations in quiet corners with that Twi'lek?"
"My purview as Jabba's translator often requires me to converse with Mr. Fortuna—"
"Not Fortuna. Silvan Kaan. The guy's so slippery, those head-tails of his might as well be serpents."
―Eightyem and Bane Malar[2]

Bane Malar was present in the palace of Jabba the Hutt when the crime lord was visited by Twi'lek criminal Silvan Kaan[2] in 4 ABY.[3] Malar grew suspicious of Kaan and Jabba's translator droid, Eightyem, whom Kaan had persuaded into a partnership. The bounty hunter took Eightyem aside and, instructing the droid not to lie, confronted him about his actions. Though Malar made direct accusations towards the droid, the interpreter maintained a façade of ignorance, causing the bounty hunter to admit his own uncertainty as to the violations committed. Malar then told Eightyem that he would discover the truth of the matter. Eightyem informed Kaan of what had transpired, though the Twi'lek remained unconcerned.[2]

Malar later foiled an attempt on Jabba's life by Charn Roondha, an Ithorian who collected taxes imposed by the Hutt. The bounty hunter held the would-be assassin at the point of his own weapon, a WESTAR-35 blaster pistol that Malar noted Roondha was likely not cleared to have on his person, a fact confirmed by Jabba's aide, Bib Fortuna. The weapon had indeed been smuggled in by Eightyem on Kaan's suggestion.[2]

Apprehending Kaan[]

"I hear the Great Pit of Carkoon's just lovely this time of year."
"Mr. Malar, whatever it is you think you've seen—"
"Oh, no thinking involved. [Malar produces a hologram] …We're talking here about knowing."
―Bane Malar and Silvan Kaan[2]

Malar accompanied Jabba's posse aboard the Hutt's sail barge, the Khetanna, to the Great Pit of Carkoon out in the Dune Sea, where Roondha was fed to the sarlacc that nested there. The bounty hunter commented on the Ithorian's demise and made a veiled threat toward Kaan about joining the tax collector in the sarlacc's gut, where he would be digested over the course of a thousand years. Malar then told Kaan to enjoy the party and departed.[2]

Sometime later at Jabba's Palace, Malar ambushed Kaan as he removed Eightyem's restraining bolt, training his sniper rifle on the Twi'lek. The bounty hunter suggested that the criminal take a trip back to the Great Pit of Carkoon, presenting him with a holographic recording of Eightyem's transgressions. Kaan was brought before Jabba, who indeed condemned the man to the sarlacc for his deceptions, while Eightyem was sentenced to disintegration on supervisor droid EV-9D9's torture rack for his own treachery.[2]

Hunting a reprobate[]

"If you kill me, Jabba's never getting the 50,000 credits—"
"80,000."
"80,000 credits I owe him."
"Jabba knows you'll never be able to pay that back in a lifetime. Which is why he wants yours cut short—"
―Bane Malar and Rik Duel[4]

Malar tracked down the scoundrel Rik Duel on Jabba's behalf. Duel convinced Malar that he was worth more alive than dead, resulting in Duel becoming Jabba's "top lieutenant."[4]

Personality and traits[]

"I assure you…I don't know what you're implying."
"I'm not 'implying.' I'm accusing."
"Accusing me? Of what?"
"… Don't know yet. But I'm gonna find out. You can wager on that."
―Eightyem and Bane Malar[2]

A male bounty hunter,[1] Bane Malar aligned himself with Jabba the Hutt.[2]

Skills and abilities[]

"Is there a problem, Mr. Malar?"
"You tell me, droid. And don't lie. I'm too smart for you to outsmart—so you best not try."
―Bane Malar to Eightyem[2]

Bane Malar maintained a career as a bounty hunter[2] and tracker.[1] Malar was successful at disrupting Roondha's assassination attempt on Jabba the Hutt with his sniper rifle. The bounty hunter was confident in his ability to outsmart the droid Eightyem.[2]
