Bane Malar
From Wookieepedia, the Star Wars wiki.
Feared by the convicts of the Kessel spice mines, Bane Malar was a mysterious bounty hunter and mercenary on retainer to the administrators of the Imperial Correctional Facility. It was his job to track and recapture escaped prisoners across the icy salt flats. To operate in the planet's harsh atmosphere, Bane always wore a reflective black enviro-suit and took down his quarry with a high powered Czerka Noslo-19 slug rifle loaded with specialty ammunition. Adding to his relentless and mysterious reputation, his bounties told tales of hearing his voice in their minds, inducing them to give themselves up.
Bane was a born telepath, and the glitterstim mined on Kessel enhanced his latent abilities, temporarily granting him the ability to sense and touch minds. To retain his edge as a hunter, he swiftly became a spice addict, fitting his suit with inhalers to keep him constantly supplied with the drug. As a side effect of the narcotic, he was extremely paranoid.
Bane occasionally took on contracts from the Hutt syndicates, and was paid to make sure certain prisoners died in escape attempts. Jabba employed his services on more than one occasion, and extended him an open invitation to visit his court on Tatooine.
Black Sun became aware of Bane Malar's association with Jabba and sought to exploit it, offering him a huge bounty to assassinate the crimelord. Bane accepted and formulated a plan to poison the Hutt's water pipe. He traveled to Jabba's Palace to execute the scheme, but fled when he sensed the arrival of Luke Skywalker and had a premonition he would die at the Jedi's hand. Bane returned to Kessel and attempted to placate Black Sun by engineering the escape of one of their agents from the prison. He failed in the attempt and was forced to flee Kessel under threat of death from both the Empire and Black Sun.
[edit] Behind the scenes
The backstory of this character has been developed by Edward M. Erdelac, under the alias "caledre," through Hyperspace's What's The Story? feature. Malar's entry was the last one to be developed.
As stated in caledre's blog on Starwars.com, Bane was originally intended to be a Draethos.
Bane Malar is being produced as a Hasbro action figure in 2008.
