A Sector Army,[1] also referred to as a battle army,[2] was a large army formation that was used by the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars. The Grand Army of the Republic had twenty Sector Armies, each with an accompanying Republic Navy numbered fleet, such as the 2nd Fleet.[1] Two Sector Armies composed a single Systems Army, which was led by a High Jedi General.[3]

A Sector Army consisted of four corps, totaling a standard 147,456 clone troopers. In turn, a corps would be composed of sixteen regiments.[4] Sector Armies from the 1st Sector Army to the 6th Sector Army, including[3] the 4th Sector Army,[5] served in the Grand Army as reserve commands.[3] The 7th Sector Army through the 12th Sector Army served in the northern quadrant of the galaxy, while the remaining eight Sector Armies served in the southern quadrant.[3]

During the First Battle of Geonosis, the Republic sent two full battle armies to Geonosis under the command of Jedi Masters Yoda and Mace Windu, totaling 294,912 troopers, 192,000 of which were deployed in battle.[2] The Galactic Republic commissioned twenty Haven-class medical stations for the war effort, each being attached to a Sector Army.[6]

Behind the scenes[]

The Sector Army was first mentioned in the 2015 issue of Star Wars: Build the Millennium Falcon 18. It was identified as a battle army in the 2016 reference book Star Wars: Complete Locations.[2]

Star Wars: The Complete Visual Dictionary, New Edition states that the 192,000 clone troopers deployed in the Battle of Geonosis were divided into two battle armies,[7] but Star Wars: Complete Locations establishes that a battle army is made up of 147,456 clones.[2]
