- "Kidnapped, Jabba the Hutt's son has been. Negotiate the treaty with Jabba, Obi-Wan will. Find the renegades who hold Jabba's son, your mission will be, Skywalker."
- ―Master Yoda informs Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Ahsoka Tano of their mission to save Rotta
The Battle of Teth took place on the planet Teth between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems. The battle, one of the earliest of the Clone Wars, was waged as the Grand Army of the Republic attempted to save Rotta, the infant son of crime lord Jabba the Hutt, from the Confederacy; the Separatists planned to kill the Huttlet and pin the blame on the Jedi Order, thus bringing Jabba and the Hutt Clan onto the side of the Separatists. Jedi General Anakin Skywalker and his Padawan, Ahsoka Tano, were able to rescue the Huttlet from Teth and brought him to Tatooine, the planet upon which Jabba based his operations.[1]
Prelude
- "Soon, the Jedi will not only be at war with you, Count, but with the Hutt clan as well"
- ―Darth Sidious to Dooku & Asajj Ventress
Following the Battle of Geonosis, Dooku's Separatist Droid Army seized control of the major Hyperspace lanes, separating the Republic from the majority of it's newly commisioned Clone Army.[1] To secure routes in the Outer Rim Territories, Dooku, at the behest of Darth Sidious, made a deal with Ziro the Hutt, uncle of Jabba the Hutt, to kidnap Jabba's son Rotta in order for him to become head of the Hutt Clans. Thus Dooku sent Admiral Trench[4], General Whorm Loathsom, and assassin Asajj Ventress to delay Jedi Generals Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi on Christophsis. After Ventress fought with Skywalker and Kenobi, Loathsom and a tactical droid brought in reinforcements in order to continue delaying the Jedi while she move on to the next part of Dooku's plan.[5]
Ventress then went to Tatooine where she attacked the Khetanna and kidnapped Rotta. She then took him to a monastery on Teth. Jabba's guards climbed onto one of the Skiffs, then went to Jabba's Palace to inform him of this. Jabba then out a call for help to both the Republic, the Confederacy and his bounty hunters. Palpatine decided that the Jedi must help Jabba in order to gain access to the Hutt's space lanes in the Outer Rim to move their troops. Despite Windu's reservations in dealing with Hutts, Windu believed there was more to the kidnapping. Windu, knowing that General Grievous had their forces stretched thin, could only spare Kenobi and Skywalker.[1]
Yoda then sent Padawan Ahsoka Tano to Christophsis with orders for Kenobi and Skywalker to make contact with them. Yoda and Windu were then informed that two scouts had found Jabba's bounty hunters at a abandoned monastery on Teth. Yoda then arrived with reinforcements thus ending the battle on Christophsis. He then sent Kenobi to negotiate a treaty with Jabba while Skywalker and his new apprentice Ahsoka Tano would rescue his son. Despite Skywalker reservations about Jabba, Skywalker, Tano and Captain Rex organized their troops and went to Teth.[1]
Kenobi then went to Tatooine, where he assured Jabba that Skywalker would bring him back his son. However, Jabba said if they did not Dooku and his Droid Army would. He then told kenobi that he had one planetary rotation to bring back his son alive. However, Dooku then spoke with Jabba after Kenobi left. Dooku then told Jabba that he was being deceived by the Jedi who were really behind his son's kidnapping. Jabba, at first, did not believe Dooku and demanded that he bring evidence of claims. Dooku assured Jabba that he would, instructing Ventress and 4-A7 to get the data he needed.[1]
The Battle
Skywalker then went to Teth, where he was informed by Windu's scout that at least 2 battle-droid battalions were holed up at the monastery. Skywalker, Tano, Rex, and the rest of Torrent Company then took the gunships and AT-TEs to land on Teth. They were then forced to land below the monastery in order to avoid the dwarf spider droids artillery fire. Skywalker and his forces then used their extension cables to climb the side of the cliff. As they made their climb, Skywalker and his men were able to defeat the battle droids outer defenses. They then found a droid caretaker who told where the battle droids kept their prisoner. Skywalker and Tano, after defeating the battle droids, found Rotta, who was sick. Ventress and 4-A7 then recorded Skywalker and Tano stuffing rotta into a backpack, with Skywalker saying he hates Hutts. Ventress then sent Dooku the recording and was then ordered by Dooku to rescue the Hutt. Dooku then showed Jabba the recording, convincing him that the Jedi had kidnapped his son. Dooku then told him that his Droid army was planning to rescue his son. When Jabba asked Dooku what he wanted in return, Dooku asked if he would consider allying the Hutt Clans with the Confederacy.
After contacting Kenobi about Rotta, his sick condition and the Separatist involvment, Skywalker, R2 and his forces then came under attack by Ventress's reinforcements. Kenobi then told that he would bring reinforcements. After the AT-TE was destroyed, Skywalker, Tano, Rex and their forces then retreated into the monastery, sealing the doors. Tano then convinced her master that they must get Rotta back to his father breathing by finding a way out. After Skywalker left with Ahsoka and Rotta, Rex and his men stayed behind to hold back the droids. After Ventress cut the locks, the droids stormed the monastery, subduing the clones. As Ventress ordered her droids to lock down the monastery, Rex attempted to shoot her but was then stopped. Ventress then force choked Rex and demanded that he reveal where Skywalker went. When Rex refused, Ventress used a mind trick to make him contact Skywalker. However, Rex was able to alert Skywalker by using his first name. Skywalker was then convinced that Ventress was here to kill Rotta.[1]
Skywalker and Tano were then confronted by Ventress and her droids. However, R2 was able to drop them all into a arena where they fought until a Rancor came. The Rancor then inadvertently sat on Ventress, allowing Skywalker, Ahsoka, and Rotta to escape.[6] Skywalker then contacted Rex, who was able to take a blaster from a battle droid, allowing him his men to continue fighting the battle droids. Rex told them that they were holding out in the courtyard. Skywalker and Tano continued onward toward a landing platform but there was no ship there. They then tried to contact a gunship, but it was destroyed by vulture droid.[6] As Skywalker and Tano move to rejoin Rex, Rotta then spotted a ship at another landing platform. Skywalker then decided they would go for it, using a Can-cell to get there. Tano then briefly fought Ventress before her master came back for her.
Once, there they found 4A-7, who exposed himself as a Separatist spy. Skywalker and Tano then took the ship and left. Kenobi, Cody and their reinforcements then came and rescued Captain Rex and Torrent Company from the battle droids. Kenobi then confronted Ventress, engaging in her in duel. The two then fought through the monastery. During that time, Skywalker atttempted to land on Admiral Yularen's ship. However, vulture droids destroyed the hangars, thus forcing Skywalker to take the ship to Tatooine.
Kenobi and Ventress then sensed that Skywalker was gone. Kenobi then offered Ventress a chance to surrender, but she then escaped onto a vulture droid. Kenobi then rejoined Rex and his forces in finishing the battle.
Aftermath
Ventress then contacted Dooku and Jabba, telling them that the battle was lost and lying that Skywalker had killed Rotta. Dooku, despite this, was able to convince Jabba in letting him take of care of Skywalker. Jabba then refused to accept any communications from Palpatine and the Jedi. Naboo Senator Padmé Amidala then tried to broker a treaty with the Hutt through Jabba's uncle, Ziro. However, Amidala then learned that Ziro was conspiring with Dooku in order to take control of the Hutt clans. Ziro then took her prisoner. However, she was saved by her protocol droid, C-3PO, Commander Fox, and his Coruscant Guard.
As Skywalker and Tano prepared to land on Tatooine, Skywalker's and Tano's then came under attack by MagnaGuards in Rogue-class starfighters. Skywalker and Tano, despite destroying them, were forced to crash land in the Dune Sea. Skywalker then sensed that Dooku was coming to finish the job, thus he sent Ahsoka and R2 to take Rotta to Jabba's Palace. Skywalker then fought Dooku in order to distract him. However, Dooku anticipated this and had his MagnaGuards prepared for this. Skywalker was then able to subdue Dooku and leave him in order to rescue his apprentice before she was killed by Jabba. As Skywalker entered, Jabba told him that his son was not here. Skywalker then threatened Jabba, despite telling him that he would die. Fortunately, Ahsoka arrived with his son, alive. However, Jabba was still furious and ordered them to be executed. However, Jabba was then contacted by his uncle Ziro. However, it was actually Amidala who revealed Ziro's part in Dooku's scheme. Jabba then allowed the Republic access to to his space lanes and asked that Dooku be brought to justice.
Despite the setback, Sidious assured Dooku that the engines of war have turned in their favor.[1]
