Believers
From Wookieepedia, the Star Wars wiki.
The Believers were a Force-sensitive cult that practiced the dark side of the Force on the planet Cularin, and was initially dismissed as a rumor by the Jedi Knights. The cult became a very dangerous threat to the Jedi who saw many of their number joining the Believers during the Clone Wars. Eventually it was discovered that the cultists were using the ancient Almas Sith fortress as their base of operations. They had also spread to the ruins of Almas Academy after its destruction. All Believers could be recognized by a distinctive tattoo, which resembles the spire of the Sith fortress on Almas with a broken lightsaber at its base.
[edit] History
The cult rose to prominence shortly after the Battle of Naboo. Its members rejected Rule of Two and followed the doctrins of the ancient Sith that existed before Darth Bane with intentions to eventually challenge the Jedi and usher in a new age of the Sith. At first, the existence of the Believers was dismissed as a rumor, because even the Jedi could not confirm their presence. But during the Clone Wars Jedi slationed in the Cularin system slowly began turning to the dark side and joining the Believers, confirming the existence of the cult and increasing its size.
As their numbers grew, the Believers created a plague to elliminate the Caarite race and the Metatheran Cartel. Initially, the virus was successful, but it was stopped by a counteragent created from samples of the virus recovered from the victims of the plague. With their plans foiled, the Believers abandoned the Sith Temple on Almas and went underground for a short lime, only to return later, when Darkstaff, a Sith artifact, attempted to protect itself from a group of agents that discovered its connection to the shadow lurkers and the Oblee. When Len Markus found it in the Cularin asteroid belt, he became possessed by it and rose to become the new leader of the Believers. The Darkstaff called on the Believers to destroy the freelance agents that hunted it, but the agents managed to thwart the Believers and free the Oblee.
