The Bimkall sector was a non-existent space sector that, in 22 BBY, during the Separatist Crisis, the HoloNet News mistakenly reported had seceded from the Galactic Republic. One month later, the HoloNet News retracted their story once they realized that the Bimkall sector did not exist.

In 22 BBY, the Separatist Crisis was in full swing, with a variety of space sectors and corporations declaring their independence from the Galactic Republic.[3] In 2:28 of that year, the HoloNet News reported that the Bimkall sector was among the sectors that had seceded from the Republic,[1] joining the newly formed Confederacy of Independent Systems;[2] unbeknownst to the news agency at the time, the Bimkall sector was nonexistent. Upon realizing their mistake, the HoloNet News retracted their story one month later on 3:21, apologizing for the previous error.[1]

Behind the scenesEdit

The fictitious Bimkall sector was first mentioned in an in-universe "Corrections" editorial for the HoloNet News, released as part of the HoloNet News Vol. 531 48 on March 21, 2002. The Bimkall sector later received its own entry in The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia, published December 9, 2008.

The name "Bimkall" was prompted by an incorrect casting rumor for Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace—namely that actor Christopher Walken would be cast as "Darth Kimball."[4]
