A bo'tous was both the carrier and the creation of the bo'tous spore. Small insect-like creatures, they spawned from victims who had inhaled the spores and capable of tearing apart both the target, and if they were not careful, the host itself. Although short-lived, they grew extremely fast in the presence of oxygen.
