- "I'm a professional bodyguard. Trust isn't part of the job."
- ―Shada D'ukal
Bodyguards were beings hired to protect someone. Many people in the galaxy, from Palpatine down to Jabba the Hutt had bodyguards.
Bodyguards were often hired to protect high-risk heads of big corporations, such as San Hill of the InterGalactic Banking Clan. Most crime lords hired bodyguards, as they were big targets for an assassin hired by a rival. In the days of the Old Republic, Jedi often served as bodyguards for senators or the Supreme Chancellor, up until the Clone Wars, when the Senate Guard (later the Red Guard) took over the protection of the Chancellor. Grievous, leader of the CIS droid army, had IG-100 MagnaGuards act as his bodyguards. During the reign of the Empire, stormtroopers could often be found protecting various officials of the Empire. Also, Gamorreans were often hired as bodyguards.
Several members of the Noghri species served as bodyguards for members of the Galactic Empire and New Republic. One Noghri bodyguard, Rukh, was Grand Admiral Thrawn's bodyguard before Rukh killed Thrawn during the Battle of Bilbringi. After the Noghri discovered that Leia Organa Solo was the daughter of Darth Vader, she was frequently protected by Noghri bodyguards including Khabarakh and Mobvekhar.
