Bomas were large sentient species, standing at about five feet tall, and covered with brown fur. They did not speak Basic.

The Rebels named a starfighter group which attacked the Death Star "Boma" flight.

Behind the scenes[]

Boma are described as being a "cross between a brown bear and a guinea pig."

In the first draft to Episode IV, George Lucas created the name Boma as a possible replacement name for Chewbacca. For the second draft, however, a Boma named Oeeta shared an apartment with Han Solo.[1]

"Boma beasts" appeared in the Tales of the Jedi comic series and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords as dangerous non-sentient creatures on Onderon and its moon Dxun. It is unclear whether the name of that species (who do not resemble the sentient Boma) was an homage to Lucas' draft scripts.
