"Robin Gurland had me read Shelagh Fraser's lines during my audition. Leading up to that, I spent a lot of time watching her performance and getting a sense for how she held herself and how she spoke. I didn't want to make it exactly like her because this was years earlier in the story and I wanted to show the younger, more innocent side of Beru."
―Bonnie Maree Piesse[src]

Bonnie Maree Piesse (born 1983) is an Australian actress and singer/songwriter who played Beru Whitesun Lars in both Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.

Biography

Piesse was born in Melbourne, Australia. Her acting career started at 14 when a friend of hers who was signed to a modeling/acting agency invited her to meet with the agency. Piesse accepted and soon signed with them, getting her first role as a teenage gymnast in the popular Australian TV series, High Flyers.[1] She then appeared in several other shows, such as Blue Heelers, Horace and Tina, Stingers, Last Man Standing, Sundays, and Twisted Tales.

At 16, Piesse got a call from Robin Gurland, the casting director for Attack of the Clones, who wanted to audition her for a role in the movie. She eventually got the part of Beru, previously portrayed by Shelagh Fraser in A New Hope.[1] In an interview, Piesse admitted that her role in Star Wars had been "a huge help in my career."[2]

In addition to acting, Piesse is an accomplished singer and songwriter. She won several Australian awards, including the Ranges Songsmith Award and the Apollo Bay Young Performer's Competition. She later traveled to Los Angeles, California and met someone who greatly helped her singing career: Val Garay, a music producer who introduced Piesse to famous songwriters Bonnie Hayes, Eric Kaz, J. D. Souther, and Jack Tempchin. She recorded with Garay her debut album, The Deep End, which was to be released in 2011 but was eventually canceled.[1] In 2012, Piesse launched a campaign on the website Indiegogo where her fans could contribute to the making of her new EP.[3] Titled Bittersweet EP, it is comprised of four songs, and was released on October 25, 2013.[4]
