"I'll brief everyone on the way to Bormus."
―Anakin Skywalker, to his Padawan as he leaves for the Bormus Testing Facility[src]

The Bormus Testing Facility was a space station run by Koensayr Manufacturing that orbited the planet of Bormus. During the Clone Wars, the facility was used to build and test the BTL-B Y-wing starfighter for the Galactic Republic. Around 21 BBY, Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker asked Supreme Chancellor Palpatine for permission to use the Y-wing starfighters against the Separatists' new weapon, the Subjugator-class heavy cruiser Malevolence. However, his request was denied because the fighters needed at least another three weeks of testing. Skywalker decided to personally travel to the Bormus Testing Facility—along with his Padawan, Ahsoka Tano, and several of his clone pilots—and obtain the Y-wings himself. After convincing a Gran who worked at the facility to allow him to access the fighters, Skywalker and his pilots were allowed to leave with the Y-wings.

DescriptionEdit

The Bormus Testing Facility was a space station, owned and operated by Koensayr Manufacturing, that orbited the planet of Bormus. The facility was used to build and test several different starfighters,[2] and was equipped with several hangar bays, which could hold at least twelve BTL-B Y-wing starfighters and a G9 Rigger freighter.[1]

HistoryEdit

"I need those bombers. It's a Republic emergency."
"They—they are not ready!"
―Skywalker, asking a Gran worker for the Y-wing bombers.[src]
The Gran worker

During the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, the Bormus Testing Facility was used to build and test new BTL Y-wing bombers for the Republic war effort.[1] Around 21 BBY,[3] Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker asked Supreme Chancellor Palpatine and the Gran Senator Ask Aak whether he could use the Y-wing starfighters against the Confederacy's new weapon, the Subjugator-class heavy cruiser Malevolence. However, Skywalker's request was denied because the Y-wings required at least another three weeks of field-testing before they would be deemed ready for use. Skywalker decided to acquire the Y-wings himself, and traveled to the Bormush Testing Facility with his Padawan, Ahsoka Tano, his astromech droid, R2-D2, and Shadow Squadron, a clone starfighter unit.[1]

When Skywalker's group reached the testing facility, Skywalker and Tano began to speak with a Gran at the facility as Matchstick and Broadsidepilots from Shadow Squadron—tried to secure the fighters, which were being held in Hangar 8122. However, when the pilots tried to enter the hangar, the clone troopers guarding the Y-wings would not let them pass because the pair didn't have proper authorization. Broadside and Matchstick argued that since they had a Jedi with them, they outranked the guards, and should be allowed to pass. Meanwhile, R2-D2 gave the Gran worker falsified documents that said Skywalker could take the Y-wings. The Gran, however, still did not allow the Jedi access to the Y-wings, as it violated procedure: they were still under production, and the request for the starfighters to be cleared for use needed to come directly from the office of Ask Aak. When Tano threatened to call Palpatine and tell him that their mission had to be postponed because the Gran had delayed their efforts, the worker finally allowed the two Jedi to take a squadron of the starfighters.[1]

Commanders and crewEdit

There was at least one Gran working at the testing facility, whose job was to help run the BTL-B Y-wing starfighter program. The facility also had several armed clone trooper guards, who protected the Y-wings.[1]

Behind the scenesEdit

The Bromus Testing Facility made its first and only appearance in The Clone Wars: Procedure, a six-page comic in The Clone Wars web comic series which led into "Shadow of Malevolence," an episode in Season One of The Clone Wars television series.[4]

Pablo Hidalgo, the writer of Procedure, intended for the Gran working at the facility to be an example of Senator Ask Aak putting choice beings into places of influence. However, since this was not clarified in Procedure itself, this plot element is only conjecture.[2]
