The Bothan shrieker was a sonic-based hold-out blaster that was popular about four thousand years prior to the Galactic Civil War. While dangerous to other species, the weapon did twice the amount of damage to Bothans due to their sensitive hearing and large ears. A Bothan hit by a blast was more likely to be incapacitated for some time by this weapon.
