Biography
Edit
Breha was a member of the influential Alderaanian House of Antilles. She was considered Queen of Alderaan after her marriage to Prince Bail Organa.[3]
Breha and her husband had many difficulties in producing a child and heir. She had at least five miscarriages, despite receiving treatment from the best fertility doctor in the Galactic Republic.[5] After the last miscarriage in 21 BBY, her doctors informed her that another attempt to conceive would probably kill her.[6]

In 19 BBY, she and her husband adopted Leia Amidala Skywalker, the newborn daughter of Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala. Through adoption, Leia became Princess Leia Organa.[1]
A short time later, in 18 BBY, Breha exiled her own sister Deara Antilles from Alderaan, after she learned that Deara had sought to expose Leia's Force-sensitive like reflexes to the agents of the Galactic Empire.[7]
Soon after the formation of the Empire, she and Bail also adopted the orphaned Winter when both Winter's parents, Bail's former senatorial aide Sheltay Retrac and an unknown Alderaanian artist, died.[source?]
Queen Breha also served as the Minister of Education[8] and it is almost certain that she died in the destruction of Alderaan in 0 BBY based on Leia's recollections of "mother" some years later.[2] Conversely, there is some evidence to suggest she may have died or divorced her husband when Leia was a child, as Leia spoke of being raised by Bail Organa's three sisters (Tia, Rouge, and Celly, whom she described as "three redoubtable dowagers" who "made her girlhood an intermittent burden"), rather than by any wife of Bail Organa.[9]
Behind the scenes
Edit
Breha Organa was portrayed by Rebecca Jackson Mendoza in Revenge of the Sith.
Breha's costume was originally going to be made of velvet, but the fabric was changed so that it would not be too dark.[10]
In the rough draft of Star Wars, "Queen Breha" was the name given to the mother of the fourteen-year-old Princess Leia, and wife of King Kayos of Aquilae.[11][12]
The theory that Breha died before the destruction of Alderaan is supported by Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, when Leia states that she was "very young", as opposed to an infant or newborn, when her mother died. If Leia did not know she was adopted, then Breha would be the 'mother' she refers to. However, Luke asked if she remembered her "real mother," which indicates that she did in fact know she was adopted and refered to her birth mother, Padmé, rather than Breha.
According to What's The Story? author Aidan Hennessy, his Databank entry for Pello Scrambas was supposed to indicate that Breha and Bail's marriage was arranged by Jorus C'baoth to end the Alderaan Ascendancy Contention.[13]

Even though Breha Organa's connection to the High Court is not made explicit in any source, she is, as the Queen of Alderaan, automatically affiliated with it.
