Caal Jordan was a scientist who worked for the Galactic Republic, assigned to Hrakert Station on the planet of Manaan. In 3,956 BBY he developed a sonic weapon for use against Firaxan sharks, and requested a raise for his accomplishments, but was killed shortly thereafter by the insane Selkath.

Caal Jordan could be seen as a reference to DC Comics' Green Lantern, Hal Jordan, because of the name similarity and because the sound emitter could be seen as the "power ring." Also another reference to comic books is that Caal Jordan, the scientist, was involved in a freak accident in the lab, like many comic book heroes and villains gain their powers. The freak accident in KotOR is that the Selkath went insane and started attacking everyone.
