Kyle's journey through the base was perilous, as he frequently encountered bottomless pits and numerous squads of Reborn and Stormtroopers. After disabling the drop ship factory, Katarn was forced to head into the deadly reactor shafts of the facility. Even those who worked in these reactors died there, as Kyle stumbled upon the corpse of an unwary imperial worker.

History

File:Pwnd2.JPG

A hangar bay onboard Cairn Installation, with Stormtroopers being pulled into the vacuum of space.

Carved out of the rock of the stable asteroid, the base housed the cortosis-processing facilities of Galak Fyyar's forces, specifically his shadowtroopers. The factory was also responsible for turning out the numerous dropships, stocked with stormtroopers and AT-STs, which Fyyar planned to launch against the Jedi Praxeum on Yavin 4.

In 12 ABY, Kyle Katarn and Luke Skywalker infiltrated the facility during the search for Desann. Katarn traveled through the hangars and the enormous Reactor core, also he battled various Reborn Dark Jedi. Later, Katarn managed to sneak aboard the Doomgiver just as it was leaving, sabotaging its systems as it was en route to its intended target.

Behind the scenes

Two missions from Jedi Knight II featuring the Cairn Installation were cut from the retail version of the game: cairn_docks2 and cairn_stockpile. Evidence of these missions exists within the game's files.
