Caluula was a planet that made up part of the Kingdom of Cron and later Xim's empire during the Pre-Republic era. After the empire's collapse, Caluula became part of the Tion Hegemony.[1] Near the end of the Yuuzhan Vong War, the Yuuzhan Vong conquered the planet and sent approximately one-third of its population to Coruscant for sacrifice. The planet was the site of a battle between the Yuuzhan Vong and the Galactic Alliance.[2]
In 29 ABY, the Yuuzhan Vong occupying the world were themselves killed as the first test subjects of Alpha Red. Despite assurances from its largely Chiss creators that Alpha Red was harmless to all flora and fauna indigenous to the galaxy, the Vong-targeting virus mutated during its test deployment on Caluula and began to decimate the native flora and fauna, wiping out the planet's rare winged-star insects.[2]
Attempts by the Galactic Alliance to quarantine the planet following the war failed, and emigrants were subject to stringent decontamination procedures.[1]
Behind the scenes
Most sources, including current maps, place Caluula in the Tion Hegemony, but The New Essential Guide to Alien Species erroneously claims that the planet is in the "Caluula Sector".
