Camray Eels were large snake-like predators native to Spira, which hunted primarily in the Shinkai Abyss. They had huge mouths with rows of sharp teeth. They used their long bodies to seize and crush prey.

They were solitary hunters that drifted along the walls of the Shinkai Abyss and hunted for silver fish. They seldom rose above 75 meters, but did seem to take pleasure in hunting and devouring divers.

This made it a popular object of sports hunting by upper class game hunters. When out of its element, a Camray Eel would smell terribly repugnant. During the Galactic Civil War, a group of Rebels lead by Seth Cambriel were on a mission to retrieve medical supplies that had been dropped in the ocean. They had to catch a Camray Eel and transport the medical supplies offplanet in the eel storage tank. Due to the terrible smell, Cambiel was positive that no one would look for them there.
