A Cannon was a term used to describe a large mounted weapon that fired heavy projectiles or energy bolts. Notable examples of cannons included the Anti-vehicle Cannon, Assault cannon, Blaster cannon, Crab cannon, Flash cannon, Hand cannon, Ion cannon, Laser cannon, Mass-driver cannon, and Plasma cannon.

The term "cannon" also referred to such devices as the Hyperspace cannon and the Thunder cannon. A Corellian gunship was called the Loose Cannon, and starfighter pilot Brodie Coburn was nicknamed "Cannon."
