Coverage[]

Shouldn't this category cover the few commodores as well? Examples are Darkligher, Brand and temporarily Solo. This goes for New Replublic admirals also. -Fnlayson 05:49, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

  • Well, the problem is that use of the commodore rank is fairly ununiform. It's generally lower than admiral, and there's only a few cases where it may or may not be higher. So it's probably not worth the confusion, IMO. Havac 06:51, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
    • True, but it is comparable to general or higher. -Fnlayson 14:35, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
    • Comparable to a brigadier general, and that's only if "brigadier general" is used and not "brigadier" -- in which case brigadier is the highest non-general rank. Basically, usage is just too confused to say definitely. Solo is the only case in the NR as far as I know of commodore being used as a superior rank, but in that case he already held a commission as a general and the reason for the title of commodore is unclear. Brand and Darklighter were both clearly junior to admirals. Havac 19:49, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
      • In GA usage, Commorde is more of a general type rank. The first usage I've seen of it was for the 5th Battle group commander. The category page just says admirals and generals though. Whatever you think is clear.. -Fnlayson 20:22, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
        • Well, the only two commodores we've seen in the GA (as opposed to NR) are Brand, who was an advisor to High Command and therefore has his exact rank unclear, and Darklighter, who was subordinate to Admiral Nek Bwua'tu, probably commanding a task force under a battle group commander, just like the NR commodores in BFC.
