"Japanese audiences have been among the most enthusiastic and devoted Star Wars fans and we couldn't let this anniversary pass without thanking them."
Steve Sansweet[src]

Celebration Japan is a fan convention which was held at the Makuhari-Messe Convention Center near Tokyo from July 19 to July 21, 2008. It was the first Celebration event to be held in Japan. Its purpose was to celebrate the 30th anniversary of A New Hope, the original Star Wars film, which debuted in Japan on June 24, 1978.

The convention was managed by Lucasfilm and the Lewis Daniel Group.

On February 23, 2008, Steve Sansweet announced Celebration Japan at Wonder-Con [1]. Later that day, posted an official announcement regarding Celebration Japan.[2]

Events included talks with Dave Filoni for the then-upcoming movie and series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, as well as screenings of A New Hope.
