The Chair of Office was the chair of the Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic, located in the Chancellor's office in the Republic Executive Building.
Chancellor Palpatine's Chair of Office afforded its owner a high level of security. The chair was sheathed in ultra-dense lanthanide alloy armor, and was equipped with a defensive shield generator. A comlink built into the armrest allowed Palpatine direct communications with his aides and members of the Red Guard. The chair was positioned behind the Chancellor's desk, which was equipped with data feeds from his private office and holding office in the Senate Building. The private office contained three similar chairs with built-in communications devices. The chair used to restrain Palpatine during the Battle of Coruscant inside the General's Quarters on the Invisible Hand featured a similar design to the Chair of Office.
A replica of the chair was placed in the courtroom of the Republic military base for the Chancellor's use during trials.
During the Galactic Civil War, after Palpatine declared himself Emperor, he kept a throne in his throne room aboard the second Death Star that echoed the style of his Chair of Office. This, too, contained a personal shield, and a comlink and Royal Guard-summoner.
