"A chalarax can't change its spots."
―Atris[src]

A chalarax was a creature that had spots. It could not change them, and, based on that fact, sometime before[1] 3954 BBY[2] a proverb had been formulated. In that year, when Jedi Master Atris refused to let go of her distrust for fellow Master Revan despite the former's redemption from the dark side of the Force two years earlier, she quoted the proverb, comparing Revan to a chalarax.[1]

Behind the scenes

The chalarax was first mentioned in Drew Karpyshyn's novel The Old Republic: Revan, published on November 15, 2011.[1] In the English language, there is a proverb which states that "a leopard cannot change his spots," which means "one cannot change the basic way one is."[3]
