"You have the distinct honor of being spoken to by Charal, Witch-Queen of this god-forsaken moon. You have come to serve my desires, have you not?"
―Charal on Endor[src]

Charal was a Nightsister Dark Jedi who turned her back on the order and left Dathomir. The Nightsisters pursued her, and to escape them, she joined a band of Sanyassan Marauders. Their vessel crashed on the uncharted forest moon of Endor, and the Sanyassan warlord set himself up as king. Roughly a century after their arrival, the Marauders were alive due to the species' longevity and Charal due to the powers granted to her by the Force-sensitive crystal on the ring she always wore. It is possible the ring was one of the powerful Force-imbued artifacts the Nightsisters used, or possibly a Sith artifact.

By 1.5 ABY, Charal had titled herself the Witch-Queen of the forest moon, and was one of the prominent members in the Marauder's Stronghold. She was already attempting to leave the planet, and had come up with a concoction which would help inform her just how long she would have left of the "nightmare of a world". To complete this, one of the ingredients she needed was a healthy Ewok's spleen. In order to get this item, she hired a spacer to kill a healthy Ewok which she had discovered the location of and cut out its spleen, bringing it back to her immediately.

Soon after this Charal's slave, known simply as "Lizardman the Slave" went missing during the night while he was bringing her another ingredient for her poultice with which she would divine the future. However, through her divine wisdom, she figured out where her slave was and so once again ordered the spacer to help her. By this time, she had started referring to the spacer as her slave also and so when she next required a task to be done she called on the individual immediately. This time she once again needed an Ewok, but this time it was for a globule of spittle from its vicious little fangs, rather than a spleen. The spacer soon found an Ewok but, instead of killing it, they just let the Ewok spit on them and then returned to Charal. This was the final ingredient for her potion, and she soon foresaw a vision of many ships landing on the planet in the near future.

Fortunately for her next plan, she had heard of a group of individuals who had recently survived a crash on the planet also. She once again called on the services of her spacer "slave," demanding that they kill Dengo Harribon and his companions and return with their comlink to her. She planned on using this comlink to steal these ships and leave the Marauders once and for all. When the spacer returned with the comlink, Charal became very pleased claiming that she would simply have to wait on the first ship to land and then she would be able to use the comlink to have command over the Universe itself. She decided that she no longer had any need of her spacer "slave," and she told them that her vision showed her that the spacer must leave her. She simply informed the spacer to follow their own destiny and they would serve hers. The spacer soon went on to serve under several other Marauders, the first of which being Fightmaster Jorak.

When the Imperial scouting party that discovered Endor was captured and imprisoned by the Marauders, Charal tried to arrange her own escape. King Terak learned of this, and imprisoned the Dathomiri witch. When the Towani family starship crashed on Endor, the Marauders stole the ship's crystal oscillator (which Terak called "the power") and killed its owners. Since Charal was unable to do anything with it, Terak sent her to hunt down the last member of the Towani family, Cindel, the newly-orphaned youngest child. Charal had convinced Terak that Cindel would know the secrets of "the power." Charal used her shapeshifting abilities to turn into a raven and tracked Cindel down, but when Cindel insisted that she did not know anything about "the power", Terak sent her to be imprisoned and seized Charal's ring. Eventually, the ring was destroyed while Terak was wearing it around his neck, unleashing its powers on the Marauder leader and burning him to crisp. Because of this, Charal was locked in her animal form of a raven.
